Mods please move to a more appropriate section if needed.
I plan on storing a fair number of oil lamps as well as oil to burn in them. I am a little concerned about the thin plastic bottles that lamp oil comes in these days so I want something a bit sturdier. I first thought of the square Metal containers used for solvents or Coleman fuel but I can’t locate them at a reasonable cost. You used to be able to get them at paint stores but so far no luck around me.
Today it just hit me out of the blue ( hey it’s been a rough month or two), why not use plastic gas, diesel or kerosene containers? If anybody knows anyreason to not use them LT storage of lamp oil or a better solution please chime in.

very definitely get the fuel out of those retail shelf bottles - not engineered for long term storage - any UV exposure will quiken the breakdown of the poly ....

nothing wrong with a poly 2.5 or 5 gallon poly fuel container - best to use the blue kerosene ones - metal is always better - the safety cans being premium >>> always decanter into a small container for filling oil lamps or the Deitz type lanterns - watch the oil slopping - don't keep 5 gallons indoors for safety sakes ....

I keep a few jugs in the original gallon containers. I have zero plan of ever taking out of the original containers, but they sit on a pantry shelf, with other like housewares stuff. I don't store much oil, because it is just a backup for LED lights which can be charged off a solar panel/generator.
