More of a general observation than a rant...

Tonight on the evening news (30 minutes) there was mention of the death of " a soldier over there". The network 'flashed' his picture on the screen for less than two seconds, tell you the truth never caught the guy's name, where he was from, what branch of the military he served in, nor where exactly he was killed let alone the circumstances of his death. The entire segment wasn't any longer than several seconds.

The next news segment was on a 'tennis star' (at which point my mind squelched). However, this news segment was perhaps 45 seconds long and for 40 of those seconds they displayed his picture.

I know our government is already spending lots of money, but perhaps they/we could spring for (paid) commercials. Run local to the home of the soldier, yeah.. put it another way, an OBITUARY commercial for our fallen soldiers.

Not just on the TV, but all medias.. radio, tv, newspapers, and of course the internet.

Maybe there should be an APP for this?

I believe it is an indication of a lack of empathy because the race and the conditions change depending on the person.

Even those with limited empathy can empathize with and put themselves in the shoes of people who look, talk, and believe the same as them, but they can't extend it to those they don't identify with. It has turned us into an ugly society.

Our soldiers have been dying ‘over there’ for 50 years. Most Americans could not find ‘over there’ on a map, or even spell the countries invaded and occupied. Militaries fight for their government, not their country.

If Americans were doing their due diligence as citizens they would know that their government lied about 9/11. Instead, like good little sheep, they believed two skyscrapers were destroyed by fire. Wrong on both counts.

At last count, 2,482 architects and engineers (including myself) are demanding a re-investigation of the cause of the destruction of all 3 World Trade Center skyscrapers, including hard evidence of controlled demolition of the all 3 buildings on 9/11. Yes, THREE skyscrapers. Ref: http://www.ae911truth.org/

Pray that nations return to God.

Rest in peace Louis Cardin, Staff Sargent USMC.

To the government (and a majority of the populace) the Soldier (Marine, Sailor, Airman) is an expendable resource. Needed to do the 'dirty things' but when they are no longer useful (or broken) to be 'tossed out' and ignored until the next crisis.

Most simply do not care, they will go with 'bumper sticker' support but that is where it stops.

I am both confused and surprised at the range of responses.

They range from "it's the way it's always been' to "I'll chose to stick my head in the sand'.

Choosing to "not watch TV" because of the imbalance of reporting soldiers deaths to 'other stories' (in my opinion) fails to address our failure to deal with this "social crime".

I see no reason why we should expect/task our news media with displaying the obituary's of our soldiers.

Our votes directly reflect where our soldiers go.
Our tax dollars pay for their training, equipment, and pay roll.

Shouldn't it be up to us, our responsibility to see to it that their deaths (and perhaps their injuries) are properly reported and ACKNOWLEDGED?

Several times I saw where Louis Cardin, Staff Sargent USMC name was mentioned but yet how many others gave up their lives THIS year? What about last year? the year before?

Perhaps the 'least' we (here) could do is to have a 'sticky' thread devoted to reporting the names of fallen soldiers.? How far back? as far back as possible. and certainly from here on forward??

I tried starting a thread like that. A place to memorialize those we knew. It didn't go anywhere. But I tried.
