NEW ORLEANS — A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else.

Why can't people understand that the way THEY feel about things like this, is NOT THE WAY EVERYONE IN EVERY PART OF THE US FEELS???

You know what, I don't care if races mix. But if that's the way people want it in their part of the country, who am I to tell them it is wrong?????
If that is how people privately think, I have no problem with it. This, however, is not a private matter. Bardwell is an agent of the state.

whats next- he'll try to get an ordnance passed that bars white people from chicken restaurants- THATS NOT HIS CALL TO MAKE. I've gone out with black women before- is by some freak lapse in good judgment I decide to ever get married again- I'd like to know I would eventually owe alimony to anyone I chose...

Ya know... "living together" has become the new fad. People are avoiding marriage. So WHEN will the Big Gov DECIDE who can and can't live together. Let's take it a step further.... it's one thing to live together, sharing the same bedroom.

WHAT if I want to take in a 'renter' that happens to be of the opposite sex? Does the Gov get a word on that one too???? Afterall... we MIGHT.... ya know.... Oopss... do the dirty deed and create a child????

A justice of the peace is an ELECTED postion, right? Which party does this person, Keith Bardwell, claim for his preference? I'm not casting any lean towards which one, just asking to be curious....

Bardwell is listed as a Republican candidate on the local ballot. That means that he WILL be out the door in very short order. Kind of interesting to find that out.
