I feel like something is going to break soon. Things are escalating.

Look at the Memorial Day weekend attacks - something like 20 shootings of more than 4 people. Chicago something like 70 killed or wounded. 30 kids even beat 3 Marines in San Clemente, CA (Camp Pendelton - expect some payback from that, you don't **** with Marines or the Airborne). We have created a nation of urban hoodrats that are out of control from coast to coast.

The government is virtually non-functional and nothing has really been accomplished in years, other than political threats back and forth. And the government holding the People hostage over one thing or another. Heck we nearly had a brawl on the floor of congress over electing a Speaker. A good portion of our elected officials are absolute nut cases or too old to function. And we keep electing them.

We haven't even reached the realm of general strikes, or a massive trucking stoppage. I'm frankly surprised that 5 million truckers haven't just parked their rigs on the interstates. But if things keep going downhill, they will. Effective tomorrow the ATF is going to turn millions of law abiding citizens into felons overnight, for having a "brace" on their AR "pistols," and nobody has really stood up to stop it. The NRA is MIA.

The population is so polarized that people are talking about dissolving the Union. Or their states (OR, CA, AZ, TX). There is NO common ground, and no room left in the ideologies of either side for compromise.

Gas is double that of just over a year ago - and doesn't look to be coming down anytime soon. FOOD is double or triple what it used to be, or half the size it was two years ago. OLD people are losing their home and being pushed into the streets. It's a national disgrace, and getting worse.

I don't think ten days worth of food is nearly enough. But they are just prisoners, and nobody cares about them. Roughly 30% of the population has been or will be arrested in their lifetime and roughly one in ten males will do time in prison. You'd think people would want the experience to be a little less miserable.

Good point. I was in the hospital like 20 years ago and the food was pretty good. Last time (4 yrs) for my cancer after I was feeling better I had my wife bring me food from the hotel to supplement the jello and mystery meat. :)

I work as a director of operations for a school district. I'm in all emergency/safety meetings. In fact I head most of them. Haven't heard a single word about anything like this.

Of course we already have supplies at the ready.

They’re not going to tell the schools in your state.

I like the idea haw the government causally told 10,000 jails annd prisons and probally that many hospitals to stock 10 days of supplies.

If it took 5 minutes to verify you were a member of the government casual notification task force ( CNTF) and to tell the chief executive to increase his stock of everything, and if you wardialed 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week, and everybody answered the phone on the first try, it would still take a 42 CNTF members to call in a week.

Yeah, I believe that.

The influencers have very low opinions of there influencees critical thinking skills.

I don't know if they decided to send out some formal advice based on the fact most people have become terminally stupid, but that is just common sense advice for any institution. You need backup generators, and you need a stock of essentials because there will be events that interrupt the supply chain, there always are.

They shouldn't have to tell the general public to prep to survive a couple of weeks without a trip to the store either, but they obviously do because every time the lights go out for more than a couple of hours panic ensues for the great majority.

Im in a hurricane strike zone..We get week(s)notice when a swirl leaves Africa but they wait til it gets into the Gulf and points at us and due in 18 hours and then they lose their friggin minds…we like to ride by WM and Lowes(across the street) and watch the masses…

The warning leads me to think this:
Personally, I don't trust Axis or Allies, UN or the USA to do the right thing - whether the warning is because of WWIII, terrorism or hurricanes. I equate Putin with Hitler, except Putin is smarter and run circles around Hitler's stupidity where war tactics are concerned.

What does this mean to me? Sure, I'm going to prep and try to get a full 2 years of supplies to fit in my tiny home. I'm going to try, but not succeed. Yes, 10 days is a bit ROFL to me. It means that they don't want you to know whats really happening. OTOH, if people get 10 days worth in, and then they say do this again and again, maybe by some miracle they might actually come out with 2 months of supplies. It won't be enough. Allies aren't good at Blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg is whats needed to win the war. Quick, fast and successful. Catch them off guard. Not wait until the foolish strike first.

Am I worried? No! I'll try, but I'll keep in mind the 5 fish and 2 loaves. I'll do the best I can and go from there. Nothing more I can do, except the best that I am capable of doing. I will stay calm, not sweat it, keep anxiety out of the equation and just cie la vie. Whether war comes or not, nothing I can do about it, so I'll prep instead. And ignore the foolish advice of 10 days.

It's better than nothing. While a joke to most of us, it could be a lifesaver to those depending on disaster services. Also remember that the majority of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, mostly due to their own stupidity. The same stupid people who will kill you to feed their 5 kids.

Telling everyone they should have 30 days, 3 months supply....... Would cause an immediate panic and sites like this one would be have a field day with conspiracy theories.

This isn't new or news, see what I did there :) Anyway, the fed's homeland security has since I can recall recommended 7-day supply of non-perishable food I don't know specifically about institutions if this is new or just become aware of it?

Prescription medications and glasses
Infant formula and diapers
Pet food, water, and supplies for your pet
Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records in a portable waterproof container
Cash and change
Emergency reference material such as a first aid book
Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person.
Consider additional bedding if you live in a cold-weather climate.
Complete change of clothing including a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and sturdy shoes. Consider additional clothing if you live in a cold-weather climate.
Fire Extinguisher
Matches in a waterproof container
Feminine supplies,
personal hygiene items and hand sanitizer
Mess kits, Paper cups, plates and disposable utensils, paper towels
Paper and pencil
Books, games, puzzles or other activities for children
Water and non-perishable food for 7 days
Extra cell phone battery or charger
Battery-powered or hand crank radio that can receive NOAA Weather Radio tone alerts and extra batteries
Flashlight and extra batteries
First aid kit
Whistle to signal for help
Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
Moist towelettes,
garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
Non-sparking wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
Can opener (if kit contains canned food)
Local maps

Funny, they forgot an AR with a minimum of 2,500 rounds and a side arm minimum of 1,000 rounds?

I can see how local maps would be useful in a jail.:ROFLMAO:

It's a possibility. Their union has been in contract negotiations with management. I don't know how that is going with regard to their demands. Their current contract expires July 31.

"Workers are demanding better pay, more full-time work, better job security, and an end to the two-tier “22.4” job classification. The deeply unpopular “22.4” provision creates a lower-paid tier of workers who essentially perform the same work as senior drivers, but for lower pay.

The workers are also demanding an end to excessive overtime, better protections against company harassment, the elimination of driver-facing cameras, and protection from hot weather. Drivers reported extreme temperatures inside their delivery trucks in posts that went viral last summer, and workers, like 24-year-old Esteban Chavez, have died due to extreme heat."

And UPS, like many other corporations, made record profits last year.

Why 340,000 UPS workers are preparing to strike in the US

Nothing new here.
We got a new director a year before covid started. She wandered around the jail speaking to random officers. I was one of the few. She asked about food and water and stated at her previous institution there was 30 days extra food and water (earthquake thing).
When covid hit our budget had not reset and we had a lot of supply issues.
