I don't envy any parent of any kid at that school. One thing about the Parkland shooting that still makes me tear up: rode my 10-speed around the neighborhood after things settled down. Probably not a good idea with such a large police presence, I was the only one out around 6:30-7pm. I recall looking into people's windows, seeing the parents trying to console their kids after going through that. It's not just the event itself, it's the rest of their lives dealing with it. I'll remember that to my dying day.

News is reporting that the shooter was a woman.. Im gonna go out a limb her and predict that this "woman" will turn out to be a trans or a lesbian. Angry at the church and trying to make a political statement.. Lets see... Regardless this sick individual killed 6 including 3 children. If you pray please do...

From the article.

"Metro Nashville Police Department has identified the shooter as a 28-year-old Nashville white woman."

Then this:

"While the majority of mass shootings in the United States are at the hands of men, police have identified the shooter as a female teen, but have not provided her identification or age."

Something a bit off here.

It's likely that the story was updated, not replaced as more info came in.

Extremely unusual to have a female shooter. Last one I recall was the muslim one in San Bernadino, CA.

The ONLY thing that will stop this is fixing society so people don't feel atrocity is their only option. This is a phenomena that began with Columbine. It is the result of several generations of truly uneducated kids raised on violence, who are stressed and bullied beyond their ability to cope.

It sounds like maybe this female harbored something for years then lashed out.

Taking the guns from citizens won't stop it. Having numerous armed people on campus might, if incorporated with limited access and metal detectors. Our town just added metal detectors at the high school, after like 3 false gun calls this year. Then there was an outcry about the time required to get inside in the morning. You can't win.

Something has happened to our society since some of us were young. Every truck at school had a Winchester and/or shotgun in the rack, or at least a .22 bolt action. I think they came standard with Fords... Plenty of boys carried Buck 110 knives on their belt. There was a rifle team. NOBODY got stabbed or shot. If someone had tried, twenty kids and teachers with guns wouldda run out to the parking lot and smoked their ass long before the cops arrived.

Fyi - History of School Shootings in the United States | K12 Academics

"The first known mass shooting in the U.S. where students were shot, was on April 9, 1891, when 70 year old, James Foster fired a shotgun at a group of students in the playground of St. Mary's Parochial School, Newburgh, New York, causing minor injuries to several of the students. The majority of attacks during this time period by students on other students or teacher, usually involved stabbing with knives, or hitting with stones".

PS - It was yet another "gun free" zone with NO security. And of course the hand wringers are calling for gun control on the very people who could (and often do) stop these things. Put armed/trained parents or security in every school, a bunch of them. Multiple armed guards at every entrance. With SBR's or MP 7's.

Set up security perimiters. Keep the bad guys outside. Close visual access to interiors and playgrounds to stop outside snipers. It can be done. But it's easier to demonize lawful gun owners.

You must believe these kids are stupid and will come waltzing in totally unaware of the armed security awaiting them. Do all that, even park an Abrams out front, what’ll it get you? A shooter set up to riddle the school bus as it leaves. So, what next: armored buses with a 50 cal in a turret on top, or expand the perimeter? Do that, and all you’ll change is the target. Next we’ll hear calls to build moats and place machine guns at 4 corners of churches. Plus, of course, add the necessary uparmored transit, to and from Sunday school. Then we’ll need to secure the sports stadiums, and their parking facilities; now we’re talking Friday Night Lights for sure! While we’re at it, be pro-active, move on to the bowling alley, corner store, 5&dime, Arby’s, daycare centers, senior living and etc and etc and etc. These kids are emotionally ill, and some are just evil, but one thing they’re not, and that’s stupid.

This never happened when I was growing up. Several students brought rifles to school during hunting season and it was never a problem. Those rifles were sitting in gun racks in full view in the back windows of a pickup or laying in the back seat of a car. Admin didn't have a problem with it. Nobody shot up schools or thought about killing anybody. This was in the 80's in suburban Portland Oregon.

What in our society has caused this problem? Guns have always been available, so is it really a gun problem or a people problem?
