Haven't you heard? We don't go to hell. We get to guard the gates of heaven.


Of course, any Jarhead who got assigned to a month of barracks guard duty will fondly remember the month of no liberty, missed meals due to incompetent corporals of the guard, enforced sobriety, secondhand barracks even the motor transport guys won't live in, too many silly uniforms inspections, your body clock thrown way out of whack, and way too many games of Spades to pass the monotony.

Enough guard shack duty and hell may sound as sweet as a 3 day pass in Olongapo.

 

Chesty is smiling down on all of us.

 

The Uncle whose name I carry was with K co, 3 rd Bn 8th Marines pretty much thru the entire Pacific...Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa...talk about a crusty old dude...much respect for those Old Breed type guys...Happy Birthday Marines :thumb:

 

I can't be the only one who's first and only thought was... **** the marine corps

 

And I'm sure most of the Marines' thoughts at reading your post is **** you and the horse you rode in on.

 

My first Marine Corp Birthday was November 10 1975, number 200. Shared a few bears with one of my Drill Instructors. I was just a 10 day old Marine fresh out of boot.

I was at the Upper MAU Camp Subic Bay, Philippines in 1975. We had a good 200th. Great duty also.
