The island nation of Haiti has moved closer to the brink of collapse. Heavily armed gangs have taken over the capital and are targeting police ....

In my memory Haiti has always been one of those nations in turmoil. No amount of aid given them would benefit anyone there other than the corrupt rich that live in relative safety and standard of life. Change must come within and will take a very long time. I just don't think it's possible in those places unfortunately.

So, like Baltimore or ****cago on an island?
Really, just half an island. Somebody already pointed out that the Dominican Republic is half the island. My understanding is that Haiti is so bad that the DR built a fence to keep Haitians out and patrol it enthusiastically.

Dog,seems like a dramatic increase starting about a month before Christmas,Cubans also..maybe its normal,just getting more media coverage,or really is a jump,I don't know.
Can't keep track of the policys, one group has a "dry land" rule that if they make it to shore, they stay..think its Cubans for pollitical reasons.
Lived in Miami during the Mariel boatlift..also the Columbian cocaine cowboy wars for control.

Eye opener for a teen that came from northern minnesota!

Somebody mentioned “Chicago on an island”
HFS..Yes!!
Only diff I see is they don’t have a freakish,bug-eyed troll ‘leading’ them or a hvy dose of Hispanics (Chi-Town is mostly Puerto Ricans)competing for territory-they killed them off yrs ago-didn’t need any help in devolving..
As a sociological experiment Haiti(and Chicago🤦‍♂️)are fascinating and a great example of what tribalism can do..My own state capitol is in the midst of devolving as we speak…
State gov is trying to carve out a Green Zone around downtown but the city leaders keep saying”we need funding and we can fix it”🙄😂
They passed the bill the other day to take over downtown and it’s turning into a National S***Show as we speak..The “mayor” is up on his hind legs shouting about apartheid and colonialism while his city dies….
The “mayor”, Chokwe Lumumba( His daddy of the same name was “mayor” too and started the decline)has talked and talked-and blamed everybody else-until nobody even hears him anymore..
I won’t even drive thru the place on the interstate in daylight 😬

As for the Dom Rep we maintain a constant troop rotation thru there for “training” and “engineering projects”..18th Corps engineer bn’s do wrk there all time..have since they went in as peacekeepers in ‘64…Two entirely diff places…
Do a google map search of the border between the two places and see just what keeps them apart👀

Not a nice thing to do but...

If I were the government of the Dominican Republic, I would move the border a mile or two into the Haitain territory using the excuse of setting up a "temporary security zone to protect our people given the civil unrest in Haiti." In reality, the security zone would be a permanent annexation. Oh... and all Hatians in my new "security zone" would be gently relocated into Haiti proper. I'd clean up the new land and start moving in Dominican settlers.
