I’ve always been careful (read paranoid) about people knowing I have food put back but lately I’ve been thinking about something Glen Beck said. He was talking about the need to store a year’s worth of food and then mentioned that a lot of people will be “waking up” and those of us who are in the know should be there to help them. I’m really not sure how I feel about the idea of being open about prepping because I worry about becoming a target if things become really bad but I also ascribe to the idea of critical mass in any crisis situation. By that I mean if enough people know what to do and keep their heads disaster can be averted. Consider that most of the issues that now could cause societal collapse wouldn’t have been a blip on our ancestor’s radar because they would have known how to cope. I believe what Glen said about improving the situation by being helpful to others to be possible because if you think about it the Weimar Republic’s hyperinflation directly led to WWII because if it were not for that Hitler would never have come to power. If people can cope better perhaps they will make better choices. Over the years I have heard a lot of people talk about being willing to shoot it out to protect their civil rights but if you could achieve the same results by sharing your knowledge / helping out your neighbors before it became necessary to fight would you risk damaging your OPSEC to do so. I honestly do not know where I stand and I wonder what everyone else thinks.
