To those of you who work and have a spouse that does not:

When your spouse buys you a nice gift, do you ever feel odd that they are buying you a gift with your own money or are you happy that they thought enough of you to get the nice gift?

If your spouse doesn't work then they are most likely contributing to taking care of the homefront and doing things you don't have time to do so that in itself is a gift. No I wouldn't feel bad if my mate bought me a gift with my money because it's not MY money as long as my mate contributed to the taking care of other things. It takes two.

Mine hasn't worked in a long time, it doesn't bother me at all.

What bothers me is when she buys something she wants, but gives it to me as a present. She does this often....LOL

We've been together over 30 years, it's not like I'm not used to it. I live in a house with a wife and 2 daughters, I'm used to being taken advantage of

My husband works outside the home and I do not. There are only the 2 of us. Last year, while he was at work, I secretly started to work on his christmas present. Custom made denim cowboy duster. Made from jeans I bought at garage sales and hid in the trunk of the car. The lining was recycled from flannel sheets. Every day, I got up, set up the machine, got out all the supplies and worked then had to put everything away again, sweep the floors so he wouldn't see scraps and threads...He had NO idea. Yeah, his money went into supplies, a dollar here a dollar there, the coat was maybe $25 worth, but the look on his face christmas morning was all the gift I needed!

I might be old fashioned but I think that a full time housewife & mother has a harder job than any man who only works forty (40) hours a week.
The money I brought home from my job it was both mine and my wife's. More my wife's because she was on the job 24/7/365.
Maybe I live in the past but that's how I see it.
If it bother's you that much why don't you pay your wife for the work she does around the house!
