Any opinions on this ammo for a GLOCK 17? I can get it for 58 cents a round. Is it worth it at that price? Also, I realize it's rated as training ammo, but how effective is it at stopping an attacker if necessary?

You probably could do better. Except for one ad that I found selling the Federal Champion Brass 9mm for $39.00 a box (78 cents per round) over a dozen sellers had it listed, but "out of stock" or "sold out." I usually buy my 7.62x39 from SJ AMMO, so I checked out their 9mm. Only about half a dozen various brands of 9mm for sale at 70 cents + per round. All the rest were sold out. On Gunbroker it's like 80 cents + per round for almost everything.

I’ve shot some Federal 115 grain (American Eagle), which can’t be much different than the Champion stuff. It’s probably the least powerful 9mm I’ve shot, and at the bottom edge of what I’d call reliable in a Glock. It’s more likely to give limp wrist failures with a new shooter, and has erratic ejection. It does cycle, but not with “authority.“ I’d buy the 115 grain for practice, then use it first and save anything better you have. If it’s all you can find, it’s still better than an empty Glock.

But I’d much prefer 124 grain HST.

$28:

New reality:

I've paid $21-37.50/box (and then either sold it for what I had in it to someone I know, or like I said, got $45/box for it when someone who is unprepared bought one of my guns.)

I wasn't doing that, (don't need any) and stood there and watched as the next guy bought the entire 500 rounds of 9mm and walked out talking about how much money he could make.

May as well make my $7.50 and provide ammo with a gun... And I'd rather make $7.50 than sell mine, no telling how long this will last.

(Paid $11/50 9mm at academy when I dropped by buddy off at the airport. I wont go out of my way, but if I'm there....)

Be glad we are prepared.

No 3 boxes of 50 isn't, but as I wrote before:

On another note: it's three boxes, some times those boxes are 520, 500, 250, 200,150, 100, 50, or 20. The last couple trips before today were 200 rounds boxes of XM193. There's no differentiation between large or small boxes. So theoretically, you can walk out with 1,560 rounds on some days.

The 9mm boxes vary from 50-500 round boxes. There was only 5.56 green box today though, no 9mm. Another 120 rounds for the coffers.

The prices at the chain stores shows just how badly the independents are gouging people. A few weeks ago I bought five 100-rd boxes of herters 9mm 115 FMJ brass case for $24/box at Cabela’s. Slightly more expensive than normal. Almost put on a different coat/hat to go back in for seconds lol. I’ve pretty much stopped actively seeking out ammo. I don’t really NEED any and I’m not paying ridiculous prices. I’ll stop in to Cabela’s from time to time when I’m passing by for work.

Price aside, yesterday I fired 100 rounds through my GLOCK 17 MOS and it was very accurate and cycled without any problems whatsoever. While I have Federal HST hollow points loaded in a few mags for self-defense this is excellent practice ammo. And, if the truth be told, I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of the muzzle of a gun using this ammo. LOL

Exactly!

In the perfect ideal condition I would prefer to have defensive ammo (hollow points) in a bad situation. Over the years I've killed deer, sick dogs and other farm animals with ball (FMJ) ammo and they died just fine. The U.S. Military uses (FMJ) in war as well as training...they aren't stupid.
