PASADENA, Texas — A father of four was fatally shot at his home after a minor traffic altercation turned into a case of road rage, Pasadena Police said.

Julie Brock said her husband's truck narrowly missed a car and the other driver was outraged.

Another reminder of why you should always be prepared to defend yourself. People flip out of complete accidents even when no one gets hurt, and that guy who flipped out because you changed lines just a little too close to him for his liking, or stopped too suddenly, or just plain accidentally caused a fender bender.

This guy got followed home for a near accident that didn't hurt anyone in any way and got attacked in his driveway. He won the fist fight, so the rager just went and got his buddy who had a gun, they kicked in the door, shot the guy, and walked off.

This was hardly a surprise attack the 2nd time and had the man owned a gun it would have been ridiculously easy to simply point it at the door and pull the trigger when they kicked it. But not having anything but his fists to defend himself with both against the surprise threat and then the 2nd attack that had plenty of warning, it didn't matter how bad ass of a fighter he was, he's now dead.

I had a similar incident a few years back when I stopped suddenly to avoid hitting a bunch of deer crossing the road. The car way behind me wasn't paying any attention and almost rear-ended me. They then tried to follow me home but I realized I was being followed and didn't stop at my house. Once they realized I was leading them in circles it triggered a chase where they pushed my car off of the road and tried to block me in a few times.

I had my wife and baby in the car. She called 911, the cops didn't care whatsoever and wouldn't do anything about it. Dispatcher directed us to the sheriff's office and they refused to even take a report (and started questioning and accusing us because we had clearly done something illegal to deserve the attack). Had I not realized I was being followed or they had successfully disabled my car, I was completely unarmed at the time and would have likely been killed regardless of how good of a fight I put up as I went down. I just got lucky that my driving was good enough to escape. Regardless we were waiting for a few days for them to recognize our car in the driveway and decide to come kick in the door.

After that I started carrying a weapon in the car and had a rifle for the house. This saved my life a few years later when a stalker with a machete and a gas can attacked and was repelled when he got there and I was sitting behind the door with a rifle pointed at him.

I end up nagging my wife a bit because sometimes she leaves her gun at home, but this kind of thing is precisely why it's so important. Because even if it hasn't happened to you yet, it's not an uncommon occurrence at all.

If one lives in a nation where self defense by way of a pistol is permitted, they should take it.

The world's getting far too savage, civilization's nose diving into a pool with no water. Personal protection is paramount.

That said... the person who got shot is sporting the check tattoo. Don't most of those, particularly the 'tear', indicate having successfully killed someone in prison? Words harsher than 'we don't want any problems' may have been said.

If you're right, probably an ex-felon, and not legally able to own, or be around, firearms. I can't think of any other reason he wouldn't have armed himself.

My family wonders why I often wear my pistol all day once I've put it on in the morning. I'm not a perfect driver (no accidents in a decade though) so I do make mistakes. I drive a Wrangler and on windy days it can get blown around. It doesn't accelerate like a Mustang and I don't go above the speed limit. This occasionally ticks people off. I have been followed once because I *GASP* blew the horn briefly for someone to go on green INSTEAD of looking at their phone. They broke off the chase after I simply drove in circles. I had a full tank of gas and absolutely no plans for that moment so I had all day if that's what the idiots wanted to do.

It only takes one time to run into that person who wants to fight for minor reasons.

Don't be a passive aggressive driver:

1. If you insist on driving slow, please get out of the way for someone who needs (or wants) to go faster. (actually is the law in Georgia)
2. The speed limit in the fast lane is also not a good idea. Most locales know 10 over is the "real" speed limit, sometimes as high as 15, so again, get out of the way.
3. Use slowdown lanes to slowdown, not the fast lane (or the slow lane for that matter)
4. Use turn signals
5. Don't use engine breaking unless you are a semi as it doesn't tell the people behind you that you are stopping.
6. Going down hill if you want to ride the break fine, but again, don't stack people up behind you, let them go past then go as slow as you want.

I had a guy flip plum out on me 2 months ago, because he said I came flying up on him too fast wile i was merging into traffic. It almost got real ugly real fast. He was probably the most angry irrational man I had ever seen in my life. Thought I was going to have to shoot him but he finally got back in his vehicle after I just sit there and let him scream like a darn fool until he got it out of his system.

Have had my fair share of idiots on the war path despite driving fine. There are raging maniacs out on the road, no question about it! As has already been stated: never get out of your car, never pull over, never allow yourself to get blocked in, and NEVER show them where you live. Always carry your weapon, you can't predict when someone is likely to threaten you or your's. It is very unfortunate it has come to this, but it indeed has.

Funny story.

Driving into walmart parking lot a couple months back and was at the end of the rows pulling into the row to find a parking space. A old crappy truck comes barreling across all the parking spaces and almost plows into me while this guy was looking over his shoulder. I had to screech to a halt and he finally looked back and swerved.

As we passed each other he yells out his window "watch where your going you effing idiot"

A tad peeved I turn my car around and park behind him. He hops out of his truck and starts walking toward my car.

Not going to be caught in my car while this man confronts me I step out. I completely forgot that I had my sidearm on that day and was not concealed (ddon't have to be in iowa) his eyes bulged almost out of his head and he ran back to his truck and sped off. I didn't get a chance to even say anything. Never seen anyone tuck tail and run so fast.

It depends on where you go, someplace like Germany people actually seem have some common sense, you dont see them putting along in the left lane with a line of cars behind them. Nor do they accelerate when you do try to pass. Now China its 24hr a day road rage. Rush hour traffic here is actually calming compared to driving there. Russia was every man for them self, common to see 3 cars abreast at a single turn lane, a race to see who gets to be first. Road rage there is really common.

Road rage... it's a boondoggle, at best. Why it happens... frustration with "life"... is my prognosis.

I've had two instances. Now look... since I lost my left eye, I am not the best driver. It was ALL probably my fault. But it was never... nothin' that we couldn't talk 'bout over an adult beverage. Ahhh... don't worry.. both them sumbiches are alive... but I would not want to live like one of 'em. The other one... he didn't even sue me.

Sometimes... I think the Almighty doesn't really care much for me.

I know that statement is not so. We're comin' up this weekend... on the GREATEST SACRIFICE. Who would give their ONLY SON... so others may live? But sometimes... in the depths of my regular despair... I can't help but think it. I have got a lot of sins to atone for.

I live in Alberta (where our RCMP doesn't think anyone needs to carry a pistol but the police), and some guy tried to run me off the road this morning. Driving on the highway, in the SLOW lane, going 110km (limit is 100). Everyone in the two lanes to the left of me is flying by 120-130-140km. And this clown in a mercedes is pulling out off the shoulder, has AMPLE time to put the petal to the metal and get in front of me (as he showed me how much more powerful his car was than mine shortly there after), or since there was no one behind me, he could have slowed down and let me pass before he pulls out. But instead he decides to go just the same speed as me until the shoulder runs out. He then falls behind, comes RIPPING up in front of me, slams on his brakes, I maneuver out of the way and wind up beside him, just flabbergasted that this guy is so upset with me for maintaining a constant speed (weird right?). After a couple KM's of this guy harrassing me and coaxing me to pull over and fight him (MUCH bigger guy than myself, I'm not a fighter, or an idiot) he follows me all the way up until I take the turn out of town and gives up. Sure felt pretty defenseless though, being followed by someone I cannot outrun, don't have any "right" to carry anything to defend myself with. I carry a knife anyways, but the consequences of being caught carrying one of my pistols would be devastating to me, which is just backwards.

I once was driving on the interstate in a Civic with my wife in the right lane. The other lane to the left was occupied, so I had no option of getting over for the motorcycle merging on to the interstate from the right. Instead of speeding up or slowing down, he is ending up right beside my car. He eventually dropped back but he was mad for some reason. He ended up coming up beside us and swerving really close to us. Mind you, he is on a bike and we were in a car.

After laughing at him while he is every closer to ramming us, he eventually sped off.

Anger. Makes people attempt to run a car off the road while riding a crotch rocket...even when it was up to them to adjust their speed to merge.

*shrug

Actually, it depends on the state. In my state you are required to move over, or slow down if you can't do that, to let people on an onramp in. They have right of way in the right lane to prevent people blocking them and them running out of ramp and crashing.

Hard to judge the situation based on the very limited information provided. But based on the looks of the dead guy (tattoos on the fave and neck), I suspect this goes a little deeper than just "words being exchanged."

The key to avoiding situations like this is conflict avoidance and deescalation, and this guy doesn't look like he's any good at either.

Speed limit is just that, the speed limit(wish we didn't have them on highways like in Northern Australia). It is illegal to go over it... Now at the same time, many states have Keep Right Except to Pass... Also fine; Then consider a group of cars in the right lane(s) going just under the speed limit, If your traveling the limit, legally it's perfectly acceptable to travel in the left lane, at the speed limit until there is an opening to return to the right.

I try in my middle-age never to speed; Why don't I speed? because it's illegal AND because I can't afford the tickets, a single ticket can blow a significant portion of my budget(it can be as much or more than car insurance that YEAR) and while I might sneak over the limit when passing or to avoid something I can't slow-down for, I try to avoid tickets...

I envy those who can legally carry in or out of the car. Not even allowed to have firearms ready to defend your home in Canukistan. Your allowed to defend your life, not your property, but of course firearms must be behind several locks, so their usefulness in even self defense is pretty much nullified. Criminals are well armed tho, so there is that... :/

Mass*Velocity(sq'd); I try to follow at least 2-3 seconds behind the car in front of me; Virtually no one in cities seems to follow that unwritten rule anymore.

My wife stopped at a rail road crossing as a train approached, the guy driving a delivery truck behind her was upset that she didn't go through. Even if she had gone past he wouldn't have made it. However, he felt like he needed to get out of his truck and approach her window while ranting (screaming) about how bad of a driver she was.

She told him to go back to his truck, he tried to reach in to the barely open window and force the window down. She pulled her 1911 out of the center console and put the weapon in plain view (pointing at the roof of the car) and told him to get back in his truck. (she may have used harsher language).

An officer on a side street witnessed the incident (train was still going past) and he approaches her window to ask what she did to make him go away. She told him what happened and showed him her carry permit. He asked to see her weapon, she cleared the weapon and handed it to him. He complimented her on the weapon then went back to chat with the truck driver. My wife was able to hear the officer say something to the effect of "do you know how close you came to dying?"

The officer ordered the truck driver to pull over into a parking lot to further discuss the situation. I'm pretty sure he did it to allow the train to pass and let my wife vacate the area. I'm also pretty sure that officer saved that man's life and saved my wife some therapy sessions.
