It is just a goofy show.

The biggest wtf was how the landscape of St Louis was transformed. The Mississippi River just disappeared and these epic mountains and canyons appeared.

 

It is goofy. I watched it pretty much because I'm from St.Louis and was curious to see if they would try to portray more than just the arch. How the Mississippi dried up and mountains pushed themselves out of the ground, yet the arch still stood, is beyond me.
The cgi would have been considered mediocre ten years ago. And the prosthetics on the gorilla guy just looked like a mall shop Halloween mask. Oh well. The fiance said never again, but I might give it one more shot.

Yeah they did a ****ty job of explaining things. Unless you played the game it is hard to understand anything.

 

So what show recently hasn't slowly explained things, a little bit per episode? I can think of several shows that haven't put all the backstory out yet. especially in the first episode.

 

We watched it last night. I might watch another episode but am so put off by that scheming couple that I might not manage!

 

I tried watching it online yesterday. For me personally, just doesn't make my must see list. I'm sure it will have a large following though.

My husband and I made it through the first 5 minutes.

 

During the musical duet, we looked at each other and said - give it 30 more minutes. I think we made it 20.

 

... tried to watch the premier; managed about 10 minutes; BORING...
nothing interesting enough to keep me watching or make me come back.

I thought it was really good for a first episode. it was more developed, thought out, and the actors seemed like they had been in their roles for a whole season already.

it reminded me a bit of firefly/serenity.

not as good as i hoped but it is spring tv season so there wont be crap on but reruns and the occasional good nba game. so i'll keep watching the adopted daughter is gonna get on my nerves with those knives though.

 

I watched till the sheriff was killed, turned it off and went to bed, nothing to get excited over from what I watched...

 

Enjoyed it for what it is- escapist sci-fi. I am officially a fan after watching it.

Nothing like hot aliens ..... Not to mention an Aussie/Kiwi as lead- Grant Bowler.

Still call him Cooter when we see him........

The girl writing in her diary narrates the beginning of the show telling you that the aliens terra-formed the land. Thought it was a pretty decent show.

Shhhh it's t.v. magic, never question the magic.

 

It's the same kind of magic where they have all those advanced communication devices and scanners but no computers.

 

I had high hopes, but it's just another show with a slow moving plot that is advanced every-so-slightly each episode as it attempts to stay on the air.

The 8 alien races are completely unimaginative. They are slight variations of human form, and any "bizarre" behavior or customs are just cliche things a non-Western culture might do. One hisses like a cat, one has public torture, etc.

Visual fx is also weak by modern standards. I don't expect ILM-level, but it's pretty weak. Overall the acting is like watching an after-school special. I can't stand the mayor-girl's voice either.

The net effect is I don't care about the characters, so a sinister plot to destroy them doesn't carry any weight.

When it was made, the two sides were built but did not match in the middle... they had to spray one side with fire hoses causing it to contract and line up the sides so they could put the final center section together...

Its decent, some hokey stuff, but decent. Im still watching it.

 

It's decent. A little hokey, but decent so far. I'm trying to use it to wean myself off of Falling Skies, since they only make like 6 episodes a year and it angers me.

 

Its ok. Whoever came up with the makeup for the doctor and mayors assistants race should probably be fired. Not much else on. I usually have a show that I look forward to for the week. Hoped this was it. Guess it will do. Feels like it is trying to be Firefly. Now that was an excellent show. I still watch reruns of it.
