Hey if it works for you, then great. Go to the thrift/2nd hand stores, keep your eye out for something about that size made of stainless steel (cookie cans?, use stainless pop rivets, nuts & bolts it would then last for years.

I would use beer/pop cans for the chimney - they will not last long but they are plentiful.

 

Nifty little contraption. I'm more impressed that you have real coffe cans though. Haven't seen metal ones around here in a couple years.

 

Same here, although they do carry one brand in a can but it's well over $20

 

How can it be used? Cooking grill over the chimney? Room/space heater if exhausted outside?

 

Looks like it would be great for an ice fishing shanty. Probably not if you're sleeping over night cause it wouldn't hold enough wood, but great for a day out.

 

Has anyone actually made a tin can rocket stove? Looking for tips. I am collecting cans. Just haven't tried to make one yet.

Would love to hear from someone too who has actually cooked someting in a silver sunscreen homemade solar oven.

I built a rocket stove out of a tin can and it works pretty good. I haven't cooked anything on it though. I just have it sitting around as a "backup". I also just used sand in it as I was too busy or lazy to go try to find vermiculite to line it with as the insulator. If you can't find metal coffee cans and you're feeling hungry, or you feel like freezing the left-over contents, most grocery stores carry all kinds of stuff in #10 cans. Baked beans, pudding, whatever, whatever. Or you could probably ask at a restaurant or school cafeteria if you know a school teacher who might ask for you and you could get all the #10 cans you want.
