Now it's totally not worth watching.

But it will be interesting to see who they get to replace him.

Dual Survival Update

Dear Campers,
Unfortunately, I have been fired by Discovery Channel for differences over safety and health concerns on the show and will no longer be a part of Dual Survival.

Although I’ll miss elements of the show, what I’ll miss the most are my fans and the opportunity to teach - on a global level – life saving skills, indigenous culture, and values of integrity and respect toward our natural world.

I have received numerous letters from viewers. Many are from kids, or their parents or grandparents, describing in detail how the show has changed their lives. It has brought families together, inspired kids to go outdoors, and motivated moms and dads around the world to take that family camping trip, many for the first time. If I can use a TV show to encourage people to turn off TV and turn on nature, I have done my job.

Thank you all very much for your support over the years. Be safe and prepared, and maybe I’ll train with you in the woods some day!

Stay classy,
Cody Lundin

It is almost inevitable that a reclusive, eccentric, and anti-corporate guy like Lundin would get in trouble with a network TV show. He is a loner with some very strong ideas and he is not good at compromise. That is why people like him.

I used to work with a guy on the Navajo Res that has known Lundin for years. He is the real deal according to my friend, but hard to get along with.

When both original cast remembers are gone the show will never be the same.

nope it sure wont be...

when both original cast members are gone I tend to ask myself why that is...

I like cody, he's got his own ways but so does everybody, I lost a lot of interest when dave left, I like daves style and his attitude and I think although his and codys styles where opposite of each other that they complimented each other pretty well... I noticed long ago with this show that it seemed to want to go the "military survival" way, hence all the getting rid of dave after all the BS and adding joe(hardcore military), putting military style against basic woodsman skills seemed to be the priority, at first I thought maybe cody had something to do with it(looking for a military training contract maybe), but lately im thinking that's not the case at all, I'm thinking hes just as much a victim of the shows military mentality as anyone, which has now ended the show...

my favorite is still less, followed closely by dave and then cody, I have no real interest in any of the others, however if dave or cody did a show along the same lines as less's it would probably be a toss up which was my favorite, less seems to be getting kind of desperate for new material and doing goofy things...

I would like to see dave and cody together again, under a little better management though, maybe have them do a north America series or something, its always better when these shows are done in your own backyard than some jungle in Africa...

I actually liked the older cast. I know Cody and Dave seemed to conflict, but that is the fun of seeing 2 like minds working together. I have read his books, watched his you tube stuff, and practiced a few of his ideas with success.
Sorry he's going, but maybe needs a stressor break from the "suits". He does have a vast knowledge, and a layed back style, he will focus on other things. TV is that.
I have seen other doors open when one closes, so ... who knows.
Good luck Cody.

Lately Cody has put on a lot of weight and has become more and more opinionated. He and Joe seemed to disagree a lot I found myself turning off the show more and more. I was learning the same old things over and over and it became much too contrived.

The barefoot hippie part was great but even that started to get old.

My favorite is Les Stroud, and if it was available Ray Mears.

The new guy that replaced Canterbery is an idiot. Apparently hadn't spent much time around a fire. One of the first shows together they were leaving an area where there was firewood into an area without, the idiot wanted to pack wood enough for an overnight fire for most of the day so they could stay warm that night. Of course Lundin called him an idiot too.

The new guy Joe is not a wilderness survival expert. He is an idiot. The whole pig scene where basically h3 went to an island for a extravagant hunting trip. He ignored his partner and didnt teach anything about survival. Then he stuck the pig like an idiot. Its all staged by the producers and that is what they came up with?

At least Cody imparted some bushcraft knowledge into the show. I wont bother with the new season.

We need more shows like Ray Mears. Better if its foreign since American producers are more into the entertainment value as apposed to wilderness survival and being educational.

It's clear Cody knows his survival stuff, no arguement there. However, didnt like the hippie-barefoot-passive way he approached the survival situations. I also realize that there was some crappy writing that I'm sure he had to go with . One thing that irratated me was that "EVERYTHING" they do could mean DEATH!!!! just too dramatic on that stuff.

Dave was fun to watch, but he had issues. Teti is the real deal, but isnt a great personality for TV. I really liked Mykel Hawke and the Mrs., I think Bear is a great guy, but the network pushes too much dangerous stuff. I'll stick with Les Stroud.

Dual Survival worked when they had very different approaches to a survival situation. Dave was conventional, Cody was the native American approach. The Indians were not barefoot, but both had strong bush crafting skills.

Both were opinionated and in many ways complemented each other.

There are other shows. Some loved, other reviled.

But Dave and Cody were good together.

Even with season one it was clear that the producers wanted Dave and Cody to be placed in precarious situations, and wrote in drama between their two personalities. On his own vids Dave doesn't do any of the reckless commando stuff they encouraged him to do on Dual Survivor.
Cody had some smart ideas. Do did Dave. I'm glad I'm too busy to absorb any TV so I can miss what they're cooking up next.

Military guys are a mixed bag of tricks. That have some extreme training but can't stop worrying about the enemy even when there aren't any. They are used to supply lines and lots of equipment, but there is no doubt about their mental toughness and adaptability.

I think we can all learn from every one of these shows. I like to watch shows with titles like "I shouldn't be alive." They are case studies in how people get in trouble and what not to do. I have no trouble with guys like Joe. They bring experience. How does anyone know if the next iteration of Dual Survival is worth watching until you see it?

As goofy as its premise is, "Naked and Afraid" is a great teaching show because people are out there for 3 weeks. Everyone hits the wall on that show. Some cave in, and some overcome. It is really hard to predict when the big strong guys are demoralized in four days, and some skinny girl is keeping everyone fed after a couple of weeks.

Say it isn't so

I watched the show faithfully. I liked the interaction between Dave and Cody. Two sides of the issue, both of them with good ideas.

I am not fond of Joe. He seems rash and does whatever he wants with no respect for Cody, who has been on the show longer.

Cody, while a bit eccentric, knows his stuff. I would much rather be stuck in the middle of nowhere with him, than with Joe.

I will NOT be watching when Cody leaves.

Cody Lundin fired from Dual Survival

Just watched the 2nd Dual Survival show from Sri Lanka, and it was Joe taking all the risks, and Cody the one with calm reason. At the end of the episode they are walking up a rock incline at about 40-45 degrees, and Joe with his hiking boots and camo long pants is slipping on the rock surface while Cody is making better headway in bare feet and short pants. Then Cody who is calmer and more aware of the surroundings calls out to watch for a rock falling down the hill so they both hug the ground while the rock falls between them, and Cody is the one they fire.....for what......for being safety conscious, calm, cautious and a great outdoorsman?

Then they preview the show in Norway where Cody is wearing wool socks with no shoes and short pants as usual. He has proved he can survive with this technique many times in freezing cold or smoking hot climates. It works for him. Don't know if the comment in the preview from Joe Teti is referring to Cody's lack of clothes, but he dramatically tells Cody that he's putting his life at risk, and that he might have to end up carrying Cody out of there.

Will have to watch the episode to find out what that is all about. Read Cody's letter on his Web site where he says he was fired over safety and health concerns. That ridiculous as he's always trying to get Joe to take less risks so that leads to one conclusion. Dual Survival wants to get someone who will take more unnecessary risks like Joe for sensationalism to get more people watching. After Cody's last Norway episode, or whichever one is his last one I will not be watching any more.

Joe has taken the show down a notch.
yeah, joe is what he is, military survival behind enemy lines is his claim to fame... hes got that "run a gun, get it done" mentality that may be cool in the military spotlight but in my opinion holds little water in the backwoods, outdoorsmans mentality that most people that watch the show have and want to see, dave and cody are outdoorsman, and woodsman, they have methods of operations that can be related to and enjoyed by outdoorsman and woodsman, joe is military, and nothing against him, but I myself have no interest in watching his hardcore military style of survival

To me, the whole idea of Dual Survival was to show that 2 people with skills that compliment each other and make up for each other's weaknesses was better than 1 person going it alone.

Dave was great at trapping and procuring meat with multiple methods. (pretty impressive when he killed a 6 ft gator with a paring knife and a stick, and stealing honey from a killer bee hive, well this is how legends are made). Really solid skills all around. Rope climbing skills, orienteering, and good old Redneck know how.

Cody was great at making fire in very primitive ways and making things using primitive methods like weaving baskets, shoes, Flint knapping to make a knife, weaving vines and grasses to make cordage. But you would starve half to death with this guy until you got used to eating bugs. he never set a single animal trap or caught anything with meat in the entire show's history that I recall. And the barefoot philosophy is just crazy.
Step on some broken glass or hawthorne and all that barefoot hippy nonsense goes out the window.

Joe Teti is actually a lot better than I thought he would be at first, but he is no Dave Canterbury. Dave above all, knew the value of teamwork, and would give Cody the respect he deserved to keep the teamwork in place. Joe would survive better by himself. Any teamwork is accidental. He views Cody as a hindrance. He would evac an area at 15 mph and run for 36 hours straight. But he is forced to plod along at Cody's pace and you can tell, he isn't liking it. Cody actually wants to go slow, since it gives him more time to teach, which seems to be one of his main drivers.

But Joe has a tenacious survival mindset and is of course in great physical condition. he also does a good job at thinking through problems. He is clearly a high speed - low drag operator. But not a good team mate for Suzie Homemaker. :)

The original chemistry was pretty good as well as entertaining. The Joe and Cody show, not so much.
I thought I heard M. Hawke was going to replace Cody. That would likely be a flop even though he is very skilled. 2 military types that have the same skillset, will not demonstrate the basis of the show, ie. 2 different skillsets complimenting one another. The show will also lack the interesting aspects of a hippy and a military type personality trying to get along.

I may be in the minority, but I don't mind Joe. I still prefer to see Dave and Cody, but very like you said, Joe "is what he is".

I do find their interaction kind of funny: Cody: I'm going to start a fire and sanitize some drinking water. Joe: We need "force protection!!!"

Interested to see how all this plays out.
