''Just days after talk of President Obama's gun control executive orders, and following a disappointing showing at the Democrat Debate, Hillary Clinton has jumped back on the populist bandwagon suggesting that, as Fox reports, it is "worth looking into" mandatory gun buy-back programs like ones in Australia. "This validates what the NRA has said all along," said Chris Cox, executive director of The NRA, with Clinton's comments making “very clear” that the underlying goal of gun-control advocates is confiscation.''

I seriously don't think so

A mandatory buy-back requires two things:

1. A gun registry
2. A population willing to give up their and your guns

Let's hope 'she' doesn't win.

I get where you're coming from and I've been there as well because of how people have tended to 'cry wolf' with the whole 'they're going to ban guns!' thing. But this time there ARE differences that bear at least an intense watching. I've personally never heard politicians PUBLICLY discuss bans, buybacks and even repealing the 2nd amendment, have you? I haven't heard that before and what's more, the politicians that said this all still have careers. That should tell you there's been a major shift out there.

They don't have to get EVERYONE to agree, just a majority. Look at right after Newtown.. For the first time EVER a majority of poll respondents favored the whole expanded background check and stricter measures thing. Now, about a month later, they had lost that majority by a good bit. But that says that there's enough people now that can be temporarily swayed by emotion into backing something that would in the end be catastrophic. So, what if another REALLY BAD shooting occurs and they push the laws into congress RIGHT AWAY? I think the threat is worse and closer than you're thinking.

I actually believe now that in the next 5-20 years we will effectively have a ban. I think semi-auto rifles will be banned as will "high capacity magazines" during that time. That will CRIPPLE most of us. And yes, I'm one of those who believed my entire life until now that there's no way they'd be able to go much further at all with gun laws.

60-80% of all firearms were never turned in or recovered. Same thing that has happened in CT and NY with non-compliant firearms or mags. The only way they get complete gun confiscation is through kicking down doors. That will not happen, especially if they are dumb enough to start anywhere other than the East or West Coasts.

Even if they go full retard and start an official registry there are so many firearms out there that have switched hands (to say nothing of the stockpiled stripped lowers) they would take generations to get all of the firearms back and converted to "registered" ones.

I'm an Australian. I handed in 3 semi-auto .22 rifles, one of which worked. Total cost one hundred bucks. I got six hundred from memory. One enterprising gent had bought a bulk load of barrels and actions for SLRs and M-16s from the army as scrap. Come the buyback he became a millionaire, literally. Can crims and terrorists still obtain firearms? Hell yeah.

thanks really interesting. I would not be surprised to see the govt do a voluntary gun buyback with potentially the same outcome.

If this were the case how could someone take advantage of this in a similar way. Are there scrap gun options in the US? I could see getting 2000 "guns" together and selling them to the govt.

What about 3D printing your own receivers. Would that work?

Hillary could care less about guns, blacks, women, hispanics, illegals, the wage gap between the rich (her) and poor, gay rights, and all the other things she has flip-flopped recently. Everything that comes out of her mouth is either a lie to prevent from going to jail or to lock in a Gruberite vote. The Democratic Party is truly issue-less and clueless. They march to a poll tested beat. If a poll said voters preferred pedophile friendly candidates, they'd all declare their support for that cause. They are all vote prostitutes, including most RepubliCANTS.

It's not going to work and will probably cost the Dems several elections around the country, including hers. That's if she manages to get the nomination.

I'm surprised to find this op-ed already, but I would expect many from around the country just like it in swing states like Colorado, Ohio, Florida, etc., and the heavy hunting states throughout the midwest and west.

Hillary Clinton's suggestion of a gun buyback is a step back

I think they're lining up Biden because they know she can't win the general election with the email thing and now this. Who's going to stand on the podium with her at a campaign rally in a swing state while she talks about gun buyback programs? They'll move as far away from her as possible. Everytime she tries to clean something off her shoe, she steps in a new pile. I expect TPTB in her party to jetison her soon.

boy oh boy..that hillary sure can sell guns !

she's not even in office yet and she's giving ol Barry a run for his title of greatest gun salesman of all time!

I kid you not...every day that she gets a microphone in her hand and comes out screeching about gun control... I literally stop by the gun store on the way home and buy something else..more mags (evil high capactity ones at that!), more ammo, another freakin gun even...

all things that i didn't think I needed..until she got on TV and convinced me that i did...

way ta go Hillary....now if you could just call out a couple companies by name, like S&W...my stocks would soar!

Not all "Democrats" want to ban specific, if any, firearms. Not all "Republicans" are for a loose interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. And if you think the NRA has your back, you might be surprised... they have their own agenda.

I think most of us are smart people and see that Hilary Clinton is using the various "mass shootings" as momentum to politicize gun control. Not exactly the most complex tactic, so why is she even bothering? Because she needs a platform other than her checkered past.

Much to do about nothing really.

Hope you are right, but the liberal left has proven time and again that they are not trustworthy, deceitful and are devisive liers. But, no, if it weren't for the 2nd ammendment and the constitution we'd be in a completely totalitarian country by now, IMO. The constitution has only slowed them down, not stopped them..

I can understand that. And I will also add that no amount of budget-friendly, small arms will keep our government backed by our military from taking over, whenever they feel like it. It's a myth that the 2nd Amendment protects us from our overlords. From your local PD... yes... some PDs. But if you overrun your local PD, the military is coming. And that just isn't going to work out well for civilians.

Do I think this will ever happen... highly unlikely. But there are folks that fall back on this argument about the 2nd Amendment, which is too bad. Because there are a lot better legal arguments.
