Not a bad hiding space, but just burying your stash is probably easier and more efficient.

 

I worry about metal detectors

 

Seems like it would work. You would want to pack the tire tight with rags or something to keep your stuff from clunking if it were ever rolled around a little.

The air in any tire I have owned gradually leaked out but it might not matter too much if the tire is stored in a shed or garage.

 

How would you fill it with stuff?

 

pack the stuff in the empty tire and then mount it on the rim..

 

So these are just inflated tires sitting around? If they're on a vehicle, won't they just steal the vehicle? A pile of tires makes a good fire for disposing bodies 'n stuff -- they might take 'em anyway.

I was thinkin of like , in the weeds and berry bushes in the back yard or the woods, on the trail to my BOL, kinda 1/2 buried , as if it had been there for years,, like you sometimes see in the woods alongside a little used road

a big old tractor tire would hold a whole lot of stuff.. and be darn hard to tote away too....

 

I like the concept, my only worry is when the chips are down tires burn good.

 

Tire irons to pop one side over the rim, insert stuff then lever the bead back over the rim.

 

Drug couriers do it all the time, along with drive shafts, 12v batteries and so on.

 

when you got your stuff in there put a chain thru the wheel and attach it to your goat. sheeple will think its a device to thether your goat which it is. sheeple will probably steal your goat and leave the wheel behind. use a very worn out tyre that no way could be used for driving. go all out option, build a earthship with tyres stuffed full of gear when shtf dig out the tyres when you need to.

 

People that break into your garage aren't going to necessarily know that the tires don't fit much of anything. They might just take them because they're easy to roll and might be worth something.

 

only possible usage I see for the idea .... you mount the real spare tire in a truck bed, on a front/rear mount or behind the seat .... the original OEM mounting area gets the booty loaded tire .... long term stuff cache wrapped ... handgun/ammo, GHB items, tools, $$$$, ect ect ..... food would need to be canned and then wax dipped for protection .... a nitrogen fill would be advantageous but not necessary .... the cache wrapping should do the protecting ....

 

Good idea but have you ever tried to mount or unmount a tire by hand? Usually takes a fair amount of beatn bangn and wrestln. Not the fastest or subtlest way to obtain your stash.

 

I'd be cutting a "window" in the sidewall instead of trying to dismount a tire in the field .... by my idea the tire stash is a one-wayer

 

It's said to be a common stash point for interstate and inter-country drug/currency mules.
Sure have seen a lot of portable X-ray trucks on interstate travels...
