do you think it would be weird to get a gun for Christmas? I never really want anything when asked what i want for Christmas. and have wanted a gun. My husband suggested that as his gift to me, but I said that would seem weird to unwrap a gun at christmas time. LOL!!!

I have never even shot a gun before.

Hopefully you will go with him to pick it out unless you really know what it is that you want.
One size does not fit all and I don't know of any place that allows returns.
You have some time yet. Since you have never shot before, see if there is a range that rents guns so you can try some out to see what you might like. I am quite fond of the Ruger Mark III series and have taught many folks how to shoot with that or its predecessor, the Mark II. It is very inexpensive to shoot.
Then, once you have honed your skills, you may wish to move to a larger caliber.

Weird? Heck no! That's my favorite gift. When my parents were alive, guns were common gifts between us.

Learning to shoot is easy and empowering. Shooting practice is very zen and focused. I find it extremely relaxing. You're focusing so hard on your marksmanship and all that goes into it, trigger press, sight picture, breathing, etc., that you can't worry about the other stresses in life. It's a great mental vacation.

Well getting a gun for Chritmas would finally be a Cristmas gift that I can truely get excited about instead of faking happiness at another useless gift:thumb:

Maybe I should buy myself one this year just for the feeling.

In fact it has been 10 years since I got something I wanted as that year my Son wanted a radar detector and I wanted a hand help GPS so we took care of business that year.

Target shooting and hunting is an activity that families can enjoy. When your kids get to be full age, it may be the longest period of time in the year where you're together.

A gift that the whole family can enjoy is an excellent idea.

I do amdit it's kind of weird getting a gun. A gun without a handgun companion or a nice scope. Just a gun all by itself.........

Nothing strange about a gun for Christmas. Luke 22:36 It's Jesus approved (a little humor and truth here).

If I may make a recommendation. Before purchasing a gun, go to a shooting range and shoot a variety of guns and see what you like and what fits you. It would be horrible to get a gun that you hate to shoot and then just have it sit in a box.

I have both given and received guns for Christmas many times over the years. If I may make a suggestion though, find a gun safety course in your area and take it. Also, many posters on this thread suggested that you go to a range and fire many different guns. and I agree that it is an excellent idea. It would be fun and very enlightening for you!
