So the father raised a kid with a mental illness. Didn't get him the help he needed (obviously), hid in his room like a coward. Called the woman downstairs to go into the hallway with his out of control son who was armed with a deadly weapon to let the cops in.

Then complains that the officer(s) shot at his enraged psychotic fully grown 19 yr old son who was attacking them at close range with a ball bat?

The woman was hit that he put in harm's way with his phone call to her?

And then he has the nerve to complain about the police? Good grief.

When it comes to police shootings compliance is your friend. Who gets shot ? Drunks, druggies, mentally ill people, confused people ,enraged people You don't see many criminals get shot because they comply with police demands. This is a good general rule. You don't offer attitude about your rights, you shut your face and follow commands . This is unless you have a death wish.

This is all a result of climate change and lack of gun control.

Seriously, though, the most likely outcome from this event is tempers will flare among the urban sheep, they'll blame the cops (again), and the cops will become even more hands-off in those areas. In turn, the sheep will complain that the cops aren't acting to defend them (which will likely be true as a result of the community never standing up for the police in instances like this).

Is there any incentive for LEOs in Chicago to actually do their job?

I used to own a number of rentals in a smart neighborhood. It's a ****ing zoo. Everyone has an angle. Everyone has an addiction. Everyone has an STD. Everyone has a criminal record. You can't even talk to them because they don't genuine understand what truth is; all you get are varying shades of fabrications and fictions, and they don't have the wherewithal to understand why it's wrong.

I can't even imagine being a cop in that setting.

Another mess from the high and mighty, self-proclaimed righteous class. The primary function of the police is NOT to clean up your mess, it's to hold people accountable for their behavior. It's infuriating how these people "call the police for help" and they don't get EXACTLY the service they wanted. It's not a restaurant, you don't dictate the outcome. If the 19 year old is mentally disabled enough that he is legally considered a dependent, the father should be held accountable. I mean, his calling 911 set the whole shooting into motion, and he was unable to take care of his responsibilities.

Taken from the linked article in the second post

LeGrier’s mother, Janet Cooksey, who was not present at the time of the shooting, lashed out at the officers for taking the life of her only son.

LeGrier, she said, was an engineering student at Northern Illinois University who was dealing with mental issues.

“We’re thinking the police are going to service us, take him to the hospital,” Cooksey told the Chicago Tribune. “They took his life.”

She added that her son “didn’t have a gun. He had a bat

What was the report made to Police?

What was the attending officer told?

How many officers attended, how close was backup?

Is this a high crime area, are officers attending likely to be attacked by other residents or will they be let get on with it?

Do Chicago police routinely act as some sort of hospital taxi, given that LeGriers's mother was just expecting him to be taken to hospital?

What was the extent of LeGrier's mental illness, he was a university student, was there other factors in play like drink or drugs?

Had police attended the address before?
