I received this bag from a friend for nothing. Is it worth repairing(cost estimate?), or should I just get another bag? Any suggestions for BOBs on a budget?

Thanks

When you put a metal plate on the CFP-90 be sure it is sanded for the rough edges and sand the holes for rough edges. Then use dental floss to sew it on- not Grandma's thread. Dental floss is a rough mutha to deal with. Remember those heatsinks on computer mainboards that come unsoldered and pop off? I tie the bracket's legs back on with the floss.

We were issued those packs at Ft. Drum back in '92 for field testing. The Army wanted to give frameless packs a go. I humped that thing around in Arctic Warfare training excercises at Ft. Drum and NTC in California for Desert Warfare.

I found the ruck carries the weight too low on your back (that bottom zipper compartment for your fart-sack is partly to blame) and gave a lot of us lower back aches. The detachable assault pack was nice though. It is made to snap in to the quick releases on your LBV (load bearing vest).

Ironically when we got deployed to Somalia they scrapped the whole thing and gave us back our beloved ALICE packs.

Before you sink any money in to it try loading it up and see how the weight is distributed. If you do decide to get it fixed you have to hump it a few times to get those aluminum bars to conform to the shape of your back. Once they do don't go messing with them or it'll be a PITA to get them comfortable again.
