I don't do company reviews very often but this company is simply beyond words. Long story short I placed an order and my credit card was immediately charged so I assumed it had shipped. After several weeks, nothing arrived so I made repeated phone calls to them... response was always that they had no idea when the order would ship (keep in mind they already had my money).

After a month and a half, I finally gave up and called to cancel the order. The response was, "we don't take cancellations over the phone". What? lol. They did take email cancellations though so I cancelled the order and this was acknowledged. Over a week after the cancellation, they shipped the order anyways and 10 days after the cancellation, it shows up at my door. Almost 2 months from the date of the original order. I tell them to come pick up their order because it was cancelled long before shipment and I can no longer use what I ordered because of the 2 month period. They state that I have to pay to ship the order back before they will issue any type of refund. Nice.

I'm in the process of filing of a complaint with my credit card company and the order is sitting in my garage unopened. FYI, these people have a "D" rating with the BBB and there are complaints all over the internet about them. Even the customer service rep I spoke with, in a quiet voice, agreed with my complaints completely and said she had no idea why the company treated people so badly.

Hope this saves someone some frustration.

I believe my neighbor had a similar experience with them a year ago. He told me that he ordered some fruit trees, but were backordered. I'm pretty sure he ended up canceling after a couple months as well since nothing showed up. You would think since they deal with somewhat time sensitive items (planting season wise), they would be better about either getting products to people on time, or just being up front and letting people know they are out for the season. It's always good to know when a company deals this way so we can avoid them.

I considered them as a source of wholesale seeds for my business this spring. When i finally got their information packet, the prices they had for wholesale were higher then any place on the internet.

Folks around here are not going to pay 2-3 dollars for a small packet of seed when they can get them 10/$1.00 at most dollar stores.

That's a real shame. There is a law that says if they ship you something you didnt ask for, then it's yours. I would guess that idf they accept your cancellation and later ship it, it's yours. I would keep talking to more and more supervisors until they refund your money. Might also want to talk to someone about seeing if this is fraud. Stick to the fact that the ordered was cancelled. If they still ship it and charge your card, to me that would be the same as sending you something and charging your card for something you didnt ask for.

I have done a few small orders with them but I think I will be done with them after hearing this. This sounds like the kind of BS a have a habbit of getting caught up in. losing enough money to fraud but not enough to actually go after in court and not enough that the states attorneys office wants to mess with.

I had a similar experience with them. Ordered a bunch of seeds, including potatoes. The stuff arrived about two months too late to plant taters.

Needless to say, I will never do business with them again.

You also have to beware of a bunch of other companies, though. Since Burgess is getting such a bad rep, they are also doing business under other names. Compare the addresses on the seed catalogs you get and make sure it didn't come from Burgess under a different name.

I've done business with Burpee the last couple of years, and everything has been perfect. :)
