Plastic Zytel knives are a pretty good option, in some venues.

 

i have been looking at zytel knives from cold steel was concerned that they would not do the job when i needed them

I guess that i have to disagree with you on this. My Ka Bar from Viet Nam had quite a few nicks from bone contact (internal) and it now rests with the son of my best friend, The lad is a Kav Maga (sp) instructor and uses it to show his students that a knife can be an excellent extension of your hands.

As to the OP, i would suggest an Emerson CQC 11. It opens when you pull it from your pocket, has a 5" blade and is well made and scary sharp.
Emerson makes quite a few models with the wave opening feature.

I think the easiest and most simplistic answer is there is no best. Everyone being different you need to work out whats better for you, your training, your fighting style and your personal preference, hell a 6" nail can be as effective as a knife cheaper and easier to dispose of incase of a body search.

A better question may have been "what do you use/ carry and why?"

 

Brah, I was always taught that if you are ever in a fight involving a blade, you will never win unless you are willing to go all the way. Rule applies to both people involved. Not trying to be a douche or anything man, just sharing some advice that I have respect for.

It's a little pricey but I'm sure you can pick it up at a gun & knife show for much cheaper if not on one of our many vendor's websites.

I took the handles off and left just the liner and the blade it's about 3mm thick and I can hide it anywhere, it will lose it's edge over night,and I sharpen it back to a razor every day, but it's disposable, I'm not taking a loss if I toss it, but if you take the same approach I do make sure to keep wd40 on hand all the time, if you have to use the knife, and I stress HAVE TO, afterward saturate the entire knife inside and out, as well as your hands.
reason being is that wd40 distorts your prints by displacing the oils that your fingerprints are made of. good luck, if you have to use a knife, odds are that your gonna get your share too, I've got mine.

Using a knife as a weapon is back up only to a fire arm. Personally I would rather fight empty handed than with a knife, but that is only because I train about 7 hrs a week in empty handed fighting.

If you have distance then the gunman may prevail but that depends solely on that person's skill level with the gun in question.

You want something for thrusting as well as cutting. The FS was designed only for killing, nothing else.

I don't think knifes should be judged from "fighting point". It's versatility of the tool, that determines its value.

Such a critter does not exist!!

It would be far, far better to learn stick fighting or combat cane fighting.

I got a 10 inch green river steak knife, and reconed that would be the best knife I own for fighting, Just got know idear how I would carry it undtected.

This pretty much sums it up.

 

Knife fights would be gruesome, but if I had an attacker ontop of me wailing on me, I'd reach to my boot and stick him in the throat or side repeatedly with a double edged blade or "boot knife", alas this is California though so ill probably just get beat to death and he'll get away with it

 

I don't like the concept of a fighting only knife personally.
Otherwise I would go with something large. Because large stabby is better than small stabby.

Or with a pig sticker because at least they are designed to kill real things not imaginary ones.

Ironicly the pig sticker the fairborn and a bollok knife all look very similar. So you can do the math on that one

 

Large or small it matters little, in ANY fight involving blades it's the technique used and not the knife, it's much the same with guns......and golf.
