Hi- I see some old info on this topic...but I've learned things don't always stay the same... what was the best brand in 2016 may not be the case anymore.

In a general sense what manufacturer makes the best all round .22LR? Would that be CCI?

And for me Aguila (of any variety) is usually barely mid tier in any gun I own.

But I’m not saying you are wrong. 22’s are finicky, they like what they like. I have over 70 22 rifles, and some of them love cheap Blazer LRN, others love Federal 36 grain bulk, and I have no doubt that your’s loves Aguila HV.👍
Bonus that Aguila is relatively cheap. I just bought a brick of their SV at $2/50 rounds last month.

Realistically, my most consistent ammo for the most guns has been SK Rifle Match. They used to make Wolf Match too, it was cheaper, but the exact same ammo.
At $10+ per 50 rounds now, SK Rifle Match is basically the cheapest, “entry level” but “really match” ammo out there.
Lapua and Eley make serious match level ammo…but it’s $15-$30 a box of 50.

As for CCI….well, they made that Blazer that I like. And the Federal as well.
But the usual CCI plastic box of 100 Mini mags that everyone swears is the best? It’s not.

I do like their Quiet-22, and their 710 fps shorts. Oddly, their subsonic LR doesn’t impress me.

CCI is probably the brand that is easiest to find something that works well in your guns reliably. In my experience their products tend to be very consistent, and they offer a wide variety of ammunition for specific purposes. This is particularly important with autoloaders and hunting rifles.

Lots of good rimfire ammunition manufacturers though. Eley, Aguila, Norma etc. They all make some great products that can outperform anything CCI produces in very specific weapons.

I generally would advise avoiding Wally World bulk ammo though, unless you test it first and are satisfied with the results of course. Personally I have always found CCI Blazer to be superior to any bulk ammo.

I have a lot of Federal 36gr bulk that works very well in every gun I have tried it in. And it shoots super good in my Ruger 77/22. Like less than an inch at 50 yards and those are 10 shot groups. But CCI in the plastic box high velocity is normally very good ammo overall.

I took my gun to the range, a Ruger Single Six and about 10 different brands of ammo and that was an eye opener test. A couple of brands gave small 25 yard groups while other ammo was all over the place and the rest gave usable but not great groups. The only way to find whats best is to buy all you can find and test it. when you find a brand or two that works go back and buy all you can afford. Make sure its the same lot number too. It does make a difference.

Shooting a lot of these through the winter months. My carbine and my rifle both like these as far as bulk stuff goes, zero malfunctions in any of these brands. Great groups and more importantly, consistent results lot to lot so far dating back to around September. Similar size groups as the Ely Club I tested in November.

Both of my rifles group LRN projectiles under 1120fps the tightest historically. I practice from 50 - 300 Yds.
