I play airsoft, for those of you who don't know what it is pretty much you dress up in military gear and shoot realistic looking firearms that use 6mm plastic bb's for ammunition. It's tons of fun and while it isn't very realistic it teaches a lot about teamwork. :thumb:
Well back to the issue there was a bill that went through the California state senate a little while ago called SB798 this bill would require any imitation firearm i.e. airsoft guns and non-functioning rifles to be painted a bright neon color. Needless to say the airsoft community did not like this bill, thanks to a few businesses and very active members of our community we gathered about 9,000 signatures on a petition to have this bill killed. Fortunately the bill was voted down in the California state assembly.
Now Senator De Leon has amended the bill, the bill now calls for each local municipality to decide on laws dealing with airsoft, paintball, and even BB guns. This means that every city has the option to declare these toys and BB guns illegal
the NRA has a nice column on it and on another bill SB 124. SB124 makes you sign a form whenever you buy ammunition and will make it so you cannot mail order ammunition. I hope that that bill will not even have a chance in the assembly however they have both passed in the senate and if they pass in the assembly they will go to the governor's desk to be signed into law.

There is a committee hearing on both of the proposed laws on July 5, unfortunately you can't speak to the committee and I'm not sure of the time or location I will post as soon as I find out but if you happen to be in Sacramento on the 5th and can find out when and where it is, and would like to have your presence give weight against these horrible laws feel free to show up.
Also remember to call your congressman the NRA site has names and phone numbers if you need them. We need these laws tossed out.
