Yes! And when or if the shtf, I going to kill and eat every part of her, except for her mouth! I've had a belly full of that over the years...

 

Mine used to be the same way until she lost her job and our lives got harder for a while. Every since the economy tanked and she started watching "Conspiracy Theory" w/ Jesse Ventura with me- she understands now and doesn't say anything.

 

Oh yeah, my wife is the same way.

I am the butt of all his jokes. He tells me he's going to use my username after I go to bed and post anti-prepper threads.

I hide most of my activities from him. If he were aware of the extent of my "craziness" I think he would find a new wife.

How I wish he thought I was being smart instead of dumb.

I wouldn't say my wife is anti-prepping . . . but I'm certain she definitely thinks I'm a bit cuckoo for some of the stuff I buy. Never any problem with her "making fun of me" to her friends though, that is just wrong. If she wants to disagree with your point of view that's fine, but badmouthing you to other people is just bad manners.

 

I'm glad my wife is all in with me! A few years ago when Ike was supposed to hit central Texas....(but didn't)....she was with me when we went to get some water and supplies at the store. She saw first hand the blown out shelves. No water, milk, bread canned goods....nada. I didn't have to convince her of anything. We left empty handed. Good thing it didn't makle it to us and cause a problem. Only had a few canned goods on hand at the time. She saw it first hand.

She shoots pretty good too!

 

Well, he's not as gung ho as I am about it, but at least my dh doesn't make fun of me. He does fuss though, when he sees I've bought something else.

My wife found out about my prepping about a month ago and I thought for a while she was ready to send me to the loony bin. Some guys at my shop told her about the videos I'd been watching and were making fun of me. She's kinda starting to see the light but still no interest in shooting or hunting. Kinda sux but maybe she'll get used to it.

 

Tell her if she respects you and your relationship, than she will not give you a hard time about this.

 

she thinks prepping is totally ridiculous and sometimes frowns upon it, but is interested in stuff like, picking locks, breaking and entering, the SAS survival guide..
she's admitted making phoney ID's in the past...

My wife does not sgree, and does object, but she thinks it's all ptsd and puts up with it as long as it don't kill the budget. She's more of an act like an ostrich type. Nothing bad will ever happen, so why dwell on it.

That ice storm that took out the power, no biggie we had a genny, (and fuel)

Furnace went out in winter, no biggie we had a salamander, (and fuel)

She crashed the van, we had to pay or turn it in to get our prems upped, No biggie, we had spare food.... See, nothing bad ever happens....

Problem now is we need to start getting high dollar items, this oughta be fun...

 

I just stopped talking to girlfriends about my prepping. All the current one knows is that I have a really extensive first aid kit that can treat everything from gunshots to snake bites. I justify that to her by my constant camping and the fact that I sell guns and I am a firearms instructor. Sometimes its best to keep opsec until you decide to get married and make it clear that you won't make fun of each other to other people.

 

My wife is awesome, but she does roll her eyes anytime I bring something new home. When I filled up a few buckets with rice and pasta, she said that I am paraniod and that she was starting to worry about me.

I only spend my money on preps and I only spend a little here and there so she is ok with it. I think she understands why I am doing it, but she has little interest in politics or current events. I admit that I do hide some of my preps from her whenever I can. I keep them in my truck until she goes to work and then stash them in the basement.

We also had the talk about keeping her mouth shut and not talking about it with anyone.

 

I did, but I told her to get on board or stay out of my way.

A few months back she asked, "how many funs do you need?" My reply, "I will let you know when I am done." Now I was not as cold as I make it sound.

BTW- I just made arrangements for another fun.

Since that discussion, much preps have been added and without a peep.

Now with prices rising,she can see that I was right in my predictions and is somewhat starting to help.

Mine is not on the same page, but she is in the book so to speak. She does not say much but does not actively help or plan just thinks things will get better. I want to scream WAKE UP PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR !! but I will do what is necessary for my family

 

Mine is a sheeple, plain and simple. I've given her examples like Katrina and what not but I still get this look when I get something else. She's not *against* it persay so I guess I should just go ahead and do it and just enjoy being the hero when the time comes.

 

When I started food storage I started slow and even though I'd get that rolling eye look, once he saw that I was rotating and not tossing food away, he was okay with it.

Now when I wanted bigger items such as a water filter, grain mill, etc., he resisted at first but finally gave in. Think he got tired of my nagging! He even helped me when I packed buckets recently so he's slowly getting his head out of the sand...just wish he'd hurry up and get it all the way out cause I still want a wood stove!

My kids on the other hand, think I'm nuts.

When she earns enough to support a family of four by herself in very comfortable fashion, her opinion starts to matter. While I do, its my game.

My hubby thought I was nuts at first but is starting to come around. I buy it and he brings it all inside for me. I just bought 6 cases of veggies and he unloaded them all from the car. We've gone to the cannery twice now and although he would rather be doing something else (probably anything else!) He helps with it all and with a good attitude too. Some things he thinks are pointless to buy, like a water filter but he won't bitch too much when I come home with it. I don't bitch too much when he comes home with a new tool either

He's against it, he thinks I am paranoid and that it is a waste of time and effort. Also apparently its creepy and "playing soldiers."

 

My problem is I want to do everything out of the ordinary. Run with the bulls, hike the Denali, canoe the entire Susquehanna, etc. So when I bring home large amounts of equipment or food she thinks i'm just naturally eccentric. It's just a matter of looking and sounding crazy all of the time.

Hear hear! That's what I do and say it's for the great patriotic war/freak ice storm which is working surprisingly well. I guess I'm one of the pretty lucky ones, my wife has gotten into sewing, gardening and such so I guess she's coming around in her own way.

 

About 30 years ago I told my wife that my number one job in life is to take care of her and our children. And I also told her regardless of what she thought and what she said that I would do whatever I thought was necessary to achieve it. I explained exactly what I intended to do which included food and water storage, saving for emergencies and learning how to care for ourselves. One month later Mount St Helens dropped 6 inches of ash in our front yard. The rest is history.

Today my wife sews, crochets, knits, and spins her own yarn from Cotton, Llama, Wool, and Mohair. She cans, dehydrates, and cooks like a champ. We mill our own wheat and corn. She loves raising farm animals and is an expert gardener ( BS in Plant and Soils).

Today we we're listening to Glenn Beck. He was talking about the need to store food. My wife said to me, " You know, I really don't like him very much, but with some things he just say's what needs to be said.

So... say what needs to be said. Do what you think is right. Today she may not agree, but tomorrow you'll be a hero. It's true.

 

My spousal unit won't even acknowledge the possibility that life as we know it will ever change. Soooo, I overbuy every trip to the grocery store, I buy equipment under the radar by explaining I need gear to fuel my hunting, hiking, camping craze.
