Another "Can you identify this vegetable" thread :-)

At first I thought it was a spaghetti squash, because I have some right nearby. But nope.

Is it a pumpkin?
A watermelon??
???

If I had a bunch of them I'd cut one open to see, but I only have 3. Only one has the yellow/orange on it. The rest are all dark green. I'd swear they were zucchini if the shape was different.

Definitely a squash. My boyfriend says a gourd squash, but still some kind of squash.

Would it be a pumpkin? I've never actually had success at growing a pumpkin plant to the point where it had fruit on it. Are they green before they turn orange?

Yes, they are green before they turn orange. A bit late, but that depends on your location, too. Hopefully you will get a pie or two, and maybe some small jackolanterns.

We have pumpkins that look just like that, but they stay green. At least they call them pumpkins here in Bulgaria. They are really nice. I think it might be what you call a "winter squash" in the USA.

You will know it is ready to pick when the stem connecting it to the stem directly connected to it turns woody/ brown. Then you can cut it open and find out.

We etch names in them at Grandma's house when they are small like that. When they're ripe you can see the names bigger
