I own 4 guns, I dont conceal carry a gun. I carry knives & pepper spray for self protection. But at home
I have Both 45 caliber Hi Points - 1 carbine 1 pistol, then I have the Mossberg 22 plinkster rifle & Tx 22 pistol
that shoots 16 bullets. I believe in having both pistol & rifle shooting the same ammo. Some look down on my
collection but I love it and Ive mastered each gun.I only shoot hyper velocity rds in my 22's and my Hi Points will eat
anything I put in them. I was a sniper in the Army but I left that type of Distance shooting alone. what home gun set up do you prefer or like to shoot?

I shoot mostly .22 LR standard velocity. Just always liked standard, but have some of the high velocity stuff. fun to practice hitting steel targets; piston and rifle. I have a Smith and Wesson Revolver from the mid 1970s I got a few years ago. Been thinking I should take out the revolver when it gets warmer here and shoot some .38 Special. I have a few other things too, but honestly too many, I can't practice with them all. I'm strongly of the opinion that being good with what you have is way more important that what you have, if that makes sense.

Welcome. Having proficiency in whatever guns you own should be everyone's priority so job well done! Nothing wrong at all with your collection. I too like 45acp. I have several handguns and one rifle in it as well as a few others. I conceal carry with a Kahr CW 45 daily though.
The nice thing about Hi Point's is that they have a no questions asked warranty and top notch customer service.

Welcome.

For many years, I had one gun. First, I bought a used S&W Model 66 .357 at a gun show. I sold that and bought a used gen 2 Glock 17. Then, I sold the 17 and bought a used gen2 G19. I have had the 19 since 1996.

My first long gun was an old Winchester Model 190 in .22LR that I bought at a gun show in the mid 2000’s.

For the last 10 years or so, my firearms seem to have been breeding and multiplying like rabbits. Looking forward to getting my latest acquisition to the range this weekend.

As long as you have something you've tested as reliable, have the ammo to feed them and train? I don't get wrapped around platforms or calibers more than I do training. Welcome!

For me, home-defense gun is mostly a braced pistol (MPX-K, CZ Scorpion), a Glock 17, Mossberg 590, and if I need to go outside, I have a Daniel Defense DDM4V7 "pistol" ready. The shotgun is really if I just need to bunker in the bedroom. If I have to do a little "checking" in the house, I like the MPX sized pistols. Glock is backup on my battle belt. It's over-kill (is there really such a thing?), but we have some pretty aggressive, violent, dangerous feral cats, annoying possums, destructive beavers, occasional coyote gangs, and even a big'ol boar one time snooping around the house :ROFLMAO:

Welcome. If you have found your choices to be accurate and reliable and you enjoy shooting them then I see nothing wrong with your choices.

I have both the .45 hipoint carbine and pistol.
To me they are utility or backup guns. Both are accurate and reliable.

I have other handguns that I prefer to carry because of their smaller size.

This really depends on your location (rural vs urban) and state. I live in the country and my bump in the night gun varies but in my bedroom I keep a 12 gauge 870 with 000 buck or #4 buck or a 5.56 pistol with a laser and a drum mag and xdm 10mm 5.25” barrel with a laser. Between those three, and the 175+ lb dog (and 13 week old 27lb Dane puppy) I don’t think I will have any issues. Thought about switching to either 450 bushmaster or 50 beowulf. A solid projectile from one of those will penetrate the wall if needed.

I like hi-point good guns if properly maintained, don't have any currently, sort of got away from semi-autos. I prefer revolvers, laver action, bolt action, and single shot, Now like you said I am trying to get multiple weapons of same ammo getting rid of the oddballs. Currently focusing on 38pcl/ 357mag, 44mag, and 22lr. Oddballs that I am keeping s my 30-06, 35rem. All shotguns are 12ga, 20ga, and 410. There is nothing wrong with your collection, its your preference and you are comfortable with it.

Welcome abord.

My original plan was for 9mm, .22LR, 12 ga., 5.56x45 and .308/7.62x51.

To that I’ve added .45, .40, 6.5 CM, .30-06, .30-30.

A friend wanted to sell me a 350 Legend. I had to pass. I only have room for so much ammo.

I have sold all of the revolvers that I bought along the way.

Guns are fun to talk about, but I think they're focused on way too much as far as survival stuff goes.
I agree with you there. For me, firearms and shooting have become a hobby. I shoot sporting clays as well as targets with rifle and pistol.

Survival skills should be learned and practiced. Self defense is only a small part of that.

When we realized our dream of leaving the city behind and living rurally, I quickly realized that my one gun, a Colt Government Model 45, was next to useless for a possum in the hen house looking for the all you can eat chicken buffet.
My first purchase was a 22 LR auto loading rifle, a Marlin Model 60.
Over the next 26 years I added quite a number of handguns, rifles, shotguns.
When I go into town, I carry a sufficiently stout handgun, and always behind the seat of my truck is a 12 gauge pump loaded with OO buck.
But here on the farm I always have a little Ruger LCP .22 LR in my pocket and a .410 shotgun nearby.

Directed @ the OP. Beware the man with one (or four) guns who knows how to stoot it/them. ;)

HiPoints are ok and fill a need, which is, "have a gun." But as budget allows there are better options. First, define your expected needs, interests. Subsistance hunting, urban security, etc.. Guns are rather specialized tools, so compromise is always present.

For now you have small game and basic defense covered.

I would add a shotgun. Probably a 12 ga Mossberg 500 (590?) with a wood stock and 18" and 30-32" barrels. Wood as it looks more socially acceptable. Allows hunting of most any lower 48 animal within 50-100 yds, from quail to bear. Bird shot is pretty cheap, slugs and buck not so much. A Mossy will last forever, mine's 40 years old and I still shoot it.

Next I would add both a fighting rifle and a hunting rifle. Which first is depending on your situation. You aren't going to get much meat with a shotgun in Wyoming when the critters see you 600 yds away. But a .338 is pretty worthless in the thick forests of PA.

In America the AR in .223/5.56 is the obvious choice for defence or offense, and you can take a deer with it at some distance. Then get a long range rifle. I feel .308 is the best overall compromise. It will take most critters, but is a bit light for brown bear or big bull moose. But if you lived where they live you'd probably already have a .45-70 or .30-06. So look at a Ruger American, etc.

Next I'd upgrade handguns to a Glock 19, and maybe a G43 for high concealibility.

After that, indulge yourself! ;)

Here in Canuckistan, we are limited on everything from gun types to mag capacity, let alone the basic impossibility of getting the right to carry (let alone concealed).

I have more than 4 guns, but I will say that my two Hi Point Carbines (in .45) have served me insanely well. I chose them for a lot of reasons but they have been super performers. I have posted multiple threads relating to them here.

I grew up shooting .38cal S&W revolvers because my Dad was RCMP. First pistol I ever fired was his service gun. I wish they had let me keep them, but the govt made me give them up after his death basically because I didn't get a prohibited weapon when I was 16.

I own an assortment of 1911 variants and a Glock in .45 as well. Large assortment of rifles (almost all are hunting versions), and several shotguns.

I have consolidated my firearms and ammo stock over the past 35 years. I had a Ruger Mini-14 Stainless Ranch Rifle with a scope that I left with my mother in West Texas, as she lived on a 150-acre lot in the mountains. I also had a Gen1 Glock 21 .45 I gave to a friend who needed something for home protection.
Currently, have a S&W 9mm semi-auto and a Winchester Defender .12 gauge that are both over 30 years old. I didn't shoot much for about 20 years, but as the threats in our area increased from the lack of border security and general direction of society at large, I decided to update and re-establish my defensive arms.
I wanted 3 modern guns that would cover all range distance scenarios with adequate knockdown power and 2 calibers that would work in all scenarios as well. So, I stocked up on .45 and ,308 ammo for 3 weapons. A Springfield Armory XD .45 striker with 13-round mags for carry and distances to 25 yards, a Hi-Point .45 carbine (with red dot and 20-round mags) for home defense out to 100 yards, and a .308 AR-10 with scope and bipod for over 100 yards. I actually prefer a .45 carbine as a primary for home defense now vs. a .12 gauge, as it will not destroy your hearing if used indoors (especially with a can), while still providing easy maneuvering and plenty of punch (with hollow-point flowers over an inch wide).

I have the Hi-point 45 pistol...... Despite its ugliness its a great gun......I shoot it very accurately.

I also have the Rossi version of the plinkster, Total jammo-matic without higher velocity rounds..... But I've only shot a few hundred through it so It might still be "Breaking in".

I've heard good things about the TX22, never shot one though.
