I just purchased a hipoint 9 and took the covers off and was surpized by the lack of moving parts in it. This is not a bad thing as there is less to go wrong. It is to heavy to be a good carry gun but would be a good gun to hand to the GF once I got my 12 gauge out. The recoil on it is nice because the mass of the slide compensates and there is not much kick to it great house gun. I found localy a little keltec 32 and also a 9mm.

I always love the "------- pistols are junk." Comments I read in the numerous forums.

Most of these come from people who have never owned the gun or done any research. Just jumping on the bandwagon.

Do your homework. Read the reviews. Handle them. Shoot them. Decide what works best for you.

If I had a financial choice between 3 reasonably constructed inexpensive firearms or 1 hugely expensive firearm, I'm always going to go for more firepower.

Keep this in mind: I've never heard anyone complain about the gun they were shot with.

I've recovered 3 visibly rusty guns at work, all parts still moving, but barely. One of them was used in a drug dealer shooting.

Sure it worked, but you wouldn't find me carrying any of them.

I've owned two KT's as well, P11 and P32.
I regret selling the P32, will pick another up at some point. The P11 worked fine, but the trigger and recoil were pretty unrefined...

All the bashers ought to ask Trayvon what he thinks about KT's...
Not saying that to be crass, but to remind people that pistols are just bullet delivery devices. The pistol doesn't kill you, the ammo does.
If it goes bang, and puts a bullet where you need it, it accomplishes the task needed.
The rest is pride and preference.

There are several other threads from people asking about this or that weapon in the <$300 range. This thread is apropos, thanks OP.

I'd rather someone had a $300 pistol, than $300 in savings, when they needed a pistol...

I, for one, found the thread VERY useful.
After going through the whole thing, I ended up buying a Taurus Ultralite 85 in stainless from Kentucky Gun Company for under $290!!!

As far as the crap about Kel-Tecs, I hear the same B.S. about Taurus pistols.
I own two, a 9mm PT-99AF & a .45 ACP PT-145, and have found both to be tough-as-nails, rock-solid & reliable pistols. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
I've never had a FTF, failure to eject or failure to chamber from either after years of service & putting several hundred rounds through each.
And that's with low-buck ammo from PMC, Fiocchi & Geco, among others.
The nonsense about off-brand ammo is a whole other story...

Every year I invite a large group to our farm during the fall for a day of BBQ, music and an outdoor range I set up for them to play all day long with any type of firearm they would care to bring. There are literally hundreds of firearms that have come through over the years and I can say that,,,, Kel Tecs are POS.or at least the ones I have seen and had to help clear.

I own a kel tec pf9 and have only had one issue with it after 500+ rounds. No a malfunction but I also carfully clean and take care of it. After about 250 round thru it my front site popped out. No jams ftf anything. Easy fix and still shootable off hand. I have shot hydra shok, critical defense, blazer, umc and speer,. When I am back to work my next handgun will be a glock 19 with tritium sights. By far my,favorite gun to shoot. Just was out of my budget and I wanted something compact for carry.

I picked up my Taurus 85 Ultralite on Friday from my LGS which did the FFL transfer from Kentucky Gun Company.

The weapon is supposed to be a cosmetic-blemish item (discoloration, nicks, scratches, etc.), but after going over it with a jeweler's loupe for over 20 minutes I've yet to find one single defect on it!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Looking forward to doing business with them again real soon & highly recommend you check them out.

So because you hated it, that makes it a POS? They have really heavy triggers and a long trigger pull, that makes it a POS? If you didn't already know that before buying it, that is your fault

You didn't say in your reply that it FTF or FTE, so don't come back now and say "it didn't shoot" or "it broke after 10 rounds" and that's the reason you think it is a POS. BTW, it is made mostly of plastic in case you didn't know that either
