We all have a vice or unhealthy habit.

The question is, how well will you do without it or have you stockpiled it so you can keep it?

In the end if it's unhealthy it might be best to give it up now before it is taken from you in a time of stress when we all tend to lean on our weaknesses.

Me, I don't drink caffeine, alcohol, or smoke.
My biggest addiction would have to be the computer and TV.
And yes, I can live without both as I've given up cable and for now I use the computer to earn my pay but I'd love to do something else.

No, we don't all have a vice or unhealthy habits. I don't have any per se. The computer is the closest I get to one. I don't own a TV, haven't for over 30 years. I never go to the movies (stopped going in the 70s, couldn't stand the audiences.) I rarely watch movies on the computer. I do have a quality cigar once in a great while with a good cognac, gustatory pleasures. Those don't rise to a vice. I prefer real women to porn, but women are so masculine these days I just ignore them and porn. Don't eat junk food. I do like red wine but not the headaches, so go light on that as well...and I do decaf coffee and tea, have for nearly 20 years. No candy, no sugar, soda, doughnuts, cake, pies... not too much carbs (unless SHTF then my body won't know what hit it from all that rice and pasta.) So, the computer comes the closest. I'm a hermit who spends most of his time investigating the flora and fauna around me.That wouldn't change much post SHTF.

I did read in one of Cody Lundine's books that when put to the test most "wilderness survival" experts don't last more than a week before caffeine and nicotine withdrawals force them in out of the cold.

I'd have to take the first four off of your list. I smoke about a pack a day, I love beer....am actually a 'beer snob' of sorts. I love the microbrew/hard to find stuff. I'm an internet junkie of the highest order, have been for 10 years. And I used to love Full Throttle and other energy drinks, but I've almost completely phased them out. Now if I drink one, I get a bit jittery, whereas a year ago I was drinking 3 a day. Those things cost $2 a piece, so if you figure a pack of smokes, 2 Full Throttle drinks, and a couple of beers, thats a bit over $10 per day!

I dabble in all of these *don't judge* I smoke an occasional cigar, drink in moderation but I'm hopelessly addicted to the computer and caffeine!

Only caffeine and alcohol apply to me, but I don't consider them vices. I can live without both. The only noticeable effect of caffeine that I have is the diuretic aspect. I just love the taste of good coffee and good booze...I'm a bit of snob with both, and only enjoy them in moderation. (Only the best for me, but again I can do without, but I would miss them.)

I like your way of thinking Straight.
Maybe I should have added a choice of "Nope, clean as a whistle" to the list.
I've given up candy many times so I know I can do it again without trouble. I only eat it when it's around, but even then I have to be careful or I'll get sick really easily.
My only soda is an occasional root beer and I know how to make that so if we are talking EOTWAWKI I'll be fine.

You sound a bit like **** Proenneke a man I would have love to have met.

Heh, I think my subconscious voted for me. I wanted to vote for caffeine, Internet and other, but I swapped Internet for alcohol.

As for caffeine, I like tea, and coffee would not replace that.

Internet I'd be lost without if I still was in the city and nothing much to do, if I'm elsewhere I miss it much less, although I AM a hardcore addict.

Other, milk. I get cranky (crankier) without it.

Alcohol, don't use it much, but sometimes I do need an escape from my mind.

Think I could live OK without tea and milk, but I would feel bored. But without the Internet I'd go plain nuts I think, it makes me feel grounded, and it would take a while to find something else. And if I never could alter my mind with alcohol or pills, I'd feel pretty unstable.

I wont make it long without caffine, if there is no coffee in the morning whats the point of getting up? As for tobacco... a feel sorry for the first person who comes across me if I haven't had a cigarette in a few days. I'm working on quitting though, the cigs not the coffee.

I like ALL the bad stuff BUT only in moderation, however if I have to ween myself from all of it at once things are going to be stressful for a couple days/weeks.

Caffeine, chewing tobacco and a beer or a schnapps from time to time..
I can do without all if I need to.
If SHTF alcohol can be made, but neither tobacco nor coffebeans will grow up here so
I'd have to kick those habits very soon.

I have been trying to cut down of caffeine, because it is my biggest unhealthy vice that I have. I love coffee and I love Sundrop (local soda loaded with caffeine), and I know that if SHTF I will not have access to either really. I can live without cable and internet as long as I am kept busy with things to do. I like to read books, but it gets expensive to go out and buy books, because I can read a book in about a day and a half if it is something I really like reading.
