I was wondering about this today. Most of y'all agree that keeping your preps secret is a good idea. But how many of you have posted a picture and/or a video of yourself on this website? Hell, even if it's on YouTube, but not on this website, anyone can see it. What's to stop people who know you in the real world from recognizing you on the internet?

There goes your secret...

I'm guessing you are wondering what we will do when SHTF and they show up at our doorsteps. Because the answer to the question you asked is: Nothing. That would make for a boring topic.

For me it really depends on what kind of SHTF we are talking about.

SHTF lite: A few days to a week without power and water in your local area or state. Followed by the government re-establishing control.

or

SHTF Bigtime: It's all gone and it's never gonna come back.

And I know there are all kinds of in-betweens.

In the first situation, no big deal, I'll probably be organizing the neighbors and helping everyone out.

In the second situation, if I ask you to leave and you don't; there's a big empty ditch about half a mile from my property I could start to fill in.

I've posted a picture. My coordinates are 59° 22′ N, 16° 31′ E. I don't have any preps, BUT if you find me, I promise to make you a great cup of tea!

I have a website and some 43 videos on the internet about plants, none about survivalism. Post SHTF friends will knock on my door to learn about plants, but no one knows I have any preps...well... you all do... but you have to find me first....

That's my thought, I have done a lot and am quite proud of it, but I am not too willing to say too much, the guns, the ammo, the gas, the water, food, the.....oh, yea, never mind, I think I might have a couple of cans of soup around here somewhere..........

if 2 people know something it is not a secret , any contract worker for a retreat, the bulk supply guy, especially the UPS guy might have an idea of what you are up to. What we prepare for is still yet to come but the general thought is that many of the above mentioned people would be knocking at your door or worst kicking it in.

Where I work, the people in my department and the "front office" ones know I prep. I am constantly reminding them to get prepared. My immediate Supervisor is from Michigan, he is pretty level headed about preps. They also know that they can't "just walk up" to my door. I feel about like shortcut, depends on the situation.

Well, if you've registered your guns - you're flagged.
If you were involved in a protest, any protest, where your group was arrested - you're flagged.
Y'all can laugh at me if you want, but when I served, I had a girlfriend who was a coms operator, and some of the stuff she sent and recieved nearly made her crazy. I happen to believe in the BEAST computer, even if that's not it's real acronymn, and so believe that if you make a major purchase in ammo or anything else abnormal to the average consumer - you're flagged.
Like outlaw, the folks at work know I have survivalist leanings as well, only where I am they're entirely brainwashed consumer liberals who worship the system with babylonian fervor, so they think I'm a kook.
One way or another, all of us are tagged and identified by the system, no matter the hard work we put into getting off the grid. Though I myself don't post pics, I appreciate when other survivors post their loadouts or shelter plans, because I learn immensly from them.
The best answer to being tagged as we all are is to read the signs of the times and try to act, by either bugging out or caching your kit before they come for you....But then, the system isn't stupid, they know exactly what they're doing.
...We'll see what happens.

You are so right about that, I buy from private dealers/owners. No paper trail. I'm so paranoid, I even buy stock groceries from different stores. I don't want paper showing someone at 1:38 pm bought 25 lbs of rice and 50 lbs of dried beans and then match me to a security film for ID purposes.

You guys, dont be scared, thats what your enemy expects of you.

You need the mentality that if they come for your guns you give them the lead first.

This is America, not france, we dont surrender

Besides if you have broken no laws, what's there to worry about:confused:

change your thought patterns:cool:

The last thing I'm worried about is that someone will pick my picture out of jungle of information on the net and then piece together my identity and address. If someone who knew me did notice my picture then odds are that they too are survival minded and having a chat with them might not be a bad thing.

As for Straight Razor, what do I get if I find you? I could just follow the trail of grazed weeds and front lawns :p.

all my real friends know I prep. Most of them have maps here, and about 90% of them have 2 weeks of food stored and ready to bring up. It's the best way, IMHO, to stet a MAG.

Great post.

If we are in fear of DOING anything we are ALREADY living under socialism- a self imposed socialism.

*I can't buy a gun cause I'll be on a list- outcome- defenseless when the time comes
*If I buy food I'll be a hoarder and on a list- outcome- your family starves to death
*If I meet others someone might not be legit and I'll be on a list- outcome- your sitting alone trying to keep awake for the third night in a row, wishing you had the time to leave watch to put up your perimeter alarm devices or cook some food. One slip up and your toast, game over, no one to help your family survive.

Ihatebugs,
Well alternative is that everyone becomes a paranoid lurker and no one posts. Don't see that happening. Do you?
So someone might recognize you, then what? If they are visiting this site they are more than likely looking to get ideas and a leg up on their own survival, not some one to prey on after the SHTF.
It's mind over matter...I don't mind and it don't matter.

I think you have to be cautious (don't hang a sign on your front door!) but realize someone at sometime might find out. There are close family members (other than my husband) who know I'm prepping, but I am careful to say what steps we are taking. My dad doesn't know too much because I know my step-mom likes to talk. My sister-in-law doesn't know too much because I know her family is insane! :D:
