I am going to buy a polymer .45 acp. The question now is what is the better all around gun, the XD or the M&P?

M&P Is more adaptable, I think the trigger pull is better. Its mad in America

XD is great to, cant say a bad word other then Springfield armory wont sell replacement parts.

Either weapon will provide years of valuable service and extreme reliability. Cant go wrong

Pick what one feels best in your hand and has the easiest point ability.

The M&P has a grip that can be adjustable with several interchangable pieces, and the XD has the extended grip magazines, so just go with whatever your guts tell you.

I have not shot the M&P, but I have had the grand opportunity to fire off a few rounds with the XD 45.

The XD is an outstanding pistol. The pistol came back on target with no problems. The recoil was not harsh and very controllable.

i would choose the M&P, but they are both good, and it's really just a matter of opinion. both will kill someone just as dead.

I'm new here, but thought that I would throw my opinion in.

I did a whole bunch of reviewing threads, and research in general, before purchasing my XD-9SC. I knew that I was interested in something that would work easily for conceal/carry, that was my main concern. The price was a bonus on the XD, but ultimately what made me decide to get the XD was just the grip and ease of sight aquisition. The option of a compact mag and full length/extended mag gave it a tailor-made fit either for concealability or comfort. I understand that the M&P has some version of a changeable grip that allows your hand to conform better. So there are a couple options to weight out. I would suggest that after you read up on some of the mechanical aspects of the pistols and get some idea of those pros and cons, in the end you should handle various versions of both models if you are still unsure.

I nthink I would have to go with the XD. My hunting partner has one and just loves it.

I carry an M&P 9mm full size. It is a fantastic pistol, thousands of rounds through it, not one ftf or any other problem whatsoever. The grip feels very natural, and my shooting has improved over when I carried the Glock 19. I have never fired the XD, but I would have no problem recommending any M&P, due to my experience.

Go to a local range and test fire both of them. I have shot the M&P and I love it. I plan on getting an M&P9 Compact for conceal carry. You cannot go wrong with the M&P.

There great, work well , fit well, the trigger is awsome, made in america, its all stainless, great weapon.

I have shot the M&P in 9mm.

I would have guessed that you want a metal framed .45ACP to absorb the recoil a bit more. I also don't like the fact that the XD is made in croatia. Nothing against them, but just cause it says "Springfield" on the side, doesn't make it better. I would sooner go with a SIG 220 or H&K USP if that were the case. Why not a 1911 or something updated like an STI 2011?
