They showed the thing on the news...has to be a .50 cal rifle round, although I go t a kick out of Fox4 News showing the slug and saying "It could have been fired from a handgun"...

Woman wounded by bullet Sunday at TMS

Woman wounded by bullet Sunday at TMS

Star-Telegram report
Police are investigating the wounding of a 62-year-old woman who was hit by a bullet at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway, according to reports.

The stray bullet, believed to be a rifle round, came through the ceiling of the woman's recreational vehicle and struck her in the right arm, said Lt. Paul Henderson, police spokesman.

The projectile was described as a large-caliber bullet in broadcast news reports, but Henderson had no information on the bullet's size Monday morning.

He noted, however, that the bullet caused "a significant" wound.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital in stable condition, according to reports, but her condition was unavailable Monday morning.

The bullet entered the RV "at a slight angle," which "indicates it was fired from a long distance away," Henderson said.

There was no information Monday about who might be responsible for the shot, or from where it was fired.

"Stray bullets seriously injure and can kill," Henderson said. "Never shoot a firearm up in the air just for kicks because what goes up at over 1,000 feet per second comes down at near speed."

My question here is...does anyone think they can determine the perimeter from which this shot came from, assuming it was a rifle and DID fall through the roof and enter the wall in the motorhome? Let's assume her motorhome was in the middle of the infield (more likely they were outside the track though)...

I hear there's a FAAAT reward..! ;)

Yes the bullets origin can be traced to a general vicinity. The ballistics of the round are known, the weather conditions are known, so that leaves only the math to be done.

The fact that the round came in from above at a slight angle suggests the round was fired almost straight up as well.

I think it's only a matter of time till they find the rifle the round was fired from. There just aren't a whole bunch of .50 cals out there. But, you never know, they may never find it. Heck, it might have been fired with a hammer and nail, or a BB taped to the primer and tossed into the air with no gun involved at all. Who knows, there's a million possibilities at this point.

Ok,Ok....I got it....... this ia a PHONY news report !!!

The NAZI LIBS have been trying to outlaw 50 bmg for a while and this might just be the "ammunition" (pardon the pun) they need to do it after OBOMINATION gets in.......

OK, maybe it is a little bit "tin foil hat" of me, but hey, you never know....Bastards have done a a lot of other propaganda to push other agendas (Like Brady campaign lying about the number of child deaths form guns , etc)......

All kidding aside, I have to ask......how come there is no deformation of the bullet?

because it's another "magic bullet"? ;)
I do know that RV's are as thin as your foil hat ;) and they showed the hole in the roof and where the cop dug it outa the wall...and I can say I have seen bullets dug out of "pre-fab" construction that really had little or no deformation. Have you been to these races? I doubt any NASCAR fan would take a bullet, go to the hospital, and miss the rest of her race to be part of a gun-ban-agenda...
I can't help but shake the thought that beer was involved and the question came up "Think it will reach the Speedway?"
Kinda like kids with BB guns and bows and arrows when the Goodyear blimp would fly over the neighborhood...but I NEVER did anything like that, of course...it was other kids...for real!

New information:
Bullet came from the north to the south...they were in the parking lot (nit infield)
Husband is offering a $3,000.00 reward.

Interest side note to "why" folks want 50 cal rifles...and why they have been selling out at FFL dealers...

I recall Mythbusters testing a bullet shot straight in the air. A bullet shot on a vertical will lose its spin and tumble on the way down, and due to terminal velocity will not be anywhere near as "as fast as a speeding bullet" and wouldn't deform so much on impact.

Interesting......but yeah, I really have no idea what happened there....my paranoia sometimes gets the better of me and my imagination gets away from me.

I hope the woman is ok and my prayers go out to her. If she did in fact get hit with a .50, I am sure it ripped her arm off.

I hope this was not some staged event to portray the evil 50 cal.....either way, it sucks for the lady and us as I am sure they (antigunners) will get LOTS of mileage out of this one, it most certainly sucks for gunowners and will prove Obama's talking points.

I don;t know about you guys, but this is the first time I have EVER heard of someone in the U.S. getting hit with one........

Said it bashed the bone up really good, but "she probably won't lose her arm". if you see the holes, it appears that it came throw the roof straight and embedded itself in the wall sideways. I recall the mythbusters episode...straight up and back down didn't have nearly the velocity of a bullet fired at an angled trajectory (I am no physicist or ballistics expert by any means!).
The second video link explained why people are buying these up...mainly out of fear they will be banned, and if/when they are, the values are going to skyrocket above the already "$10,000.00 price tag".

i cant think of ANYONE that would waste a 5 dollar bullet like that. Notice that there was absolutely no deformation whatsoever? even at sub-ballistic velocity, striking a vehicle WILL distort a lump of jacketed lead easily.

I found it humorous that national trail day ( or some name similar to) was being promoted for November 1 & 2 " get out and hike the trails" which is opening weekend of rifle white tail season for us!

I dont even go out riding horses much during deer season.

Not sure. we have 2 at work.

Use for it? mostly target work, LOOOONNNGGGGrange target work. Ammo at work is around $50 for 10 rounds, to as much as $85 for 10. I have heard of hunting with such a gun, but I wouldn;t go for one. Way too much gun, way too heavy.

if someone did fire it into the air- it would fly extremely high- at least 10-12,000 feet by estimation of a similar test done on Mythbusters, and that was with a 30-06. At those altitudes, the jet stream will move that sumbitch VERY far away- like entire western states away.
