What will cause mass riots? What will cause looting and civil chaos?

The answer is "austerity measures"

The Republicans have been sent to the House with an agenda to stop spending, stop bailing out, stop running up the deficits and stop taxing us to death.

So what happens when they cut off the Government Cheese?

The same thing that has happened in France and Greece. The austerity measures pushed people to riot and loot. It is not the tax paying hard working people that are looting. They are all busy at work. It is the welfare class sitting around with nothing to do. You take away the government food stamps, or reduce the Section 8 housing supplements and cut off the cheese and these people will be looting in no time.

How will you know when all hell is about to break loose?

Government Shutdowns. I fully expect the Republicans to refuse to raise the debt ceiling (rightfully so) and Obama will veto any budget cuts. This will lead to government shutdowns.

If they started doing that here, then it would be beyond law enforcement's ability to keep control. That's when we have the chance to legitimately reduce their numbers in defense of life and property.

The only contribution they make to society is to breed the next generation of couch potatoes. They are "surplus population" and need culled. If they give us the excuse, I say we cull them.

I know when I first went into this. I not only made myself a promise to do whatever was necessary to defend myself and my group, but also to not allow anyone to victimize anyone else within my sphere of influence. I may not be willing to feed my neighbors, but I will not tolerate anyone burning their house, stealing their property, or victimizing them either.

This theory? Forget proximity to nuclear missile facilities or other targets prized by the commies when choosing a SHTF secure location, this demands you move as far as possible from any KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN! My personal opinion from over 60 years on the ground, too much of it in some of the worst areas in America? Pull government support and these disorganized masses fail rapidly. Days. Attrition rate in impacted areas rises in a logarithmic curve until the population self destructs. I say go for it...

However, even if the Dem's do hold the Senate, they will now have nowhere near a filibuster proof majority. That will also add to the gridlock I think the OP was talking about. Most likely the only budget action over the next couple of years will be through last minute continuing resolutions. Last time that happened, as I recall, there were some cutbacks in government programs and employment (and the economy now is even more fragile than it was back then).

Sadly, it also means that the votes will not be there to repeal the new health care law, or to reverse anything else the current lame duck Congress rams through in the next few months, between now and when the new Congress is seated early 2011.

Much of what they can't repeal they can defund. Budget measures begin in the House, by law, and now the Republicans in the House will chair all the House committees, so nothing can even come to a vote without their passing it in the committees first.
I think most of what the libs would put through in a lame duck session would take longer to pass than two months, and Republicans can still fillibuster anything they try to pass between now and then, so the libs won't be able to do as much as they want to do.
The congress will be a mess for the next two years because Obama isn't willing to bend at all, and the people will make sure the Republicans don't bend much either, if it means compromising on principles. Bills will be held hostage to other bills..."if you don't pass this, I'll veto this." It might get kind of ugly.
Gridlock is better than what we have now, nevertheless.
Obama has already said he expects congress to bend his way...he is still going to push for his agenda and not want to compromise on anything. But I find it interesting that Issa and others are going to push through investigations into fraud against the whole administration. It could be Obama won't be as brave as he thinks he will be under these threats. He has his veto, but they have his secrets to dredge up. Who will blink first?

Of course they will be out causing civil disobedience if someone cut's the money off. Look how this leech group acts when they are in a public place on a good day with all the loud mouth hollering and ridiculous actions they act out on. The middle of the month is almost here now you will see the welfare / wic bunch out in force getting groceries that even royalty can't afford.

I don't think anyone in charge has the balls to cut these people off and it will continue until there is no money to give out for anything. This country is quite sickening in this regard.

They should already be out there now working in the fields, painting sidewalks, picking trash up, etc for their check every month. Things we don't have money to pay town workers they could be doing.

There won't be any spending cuts, the spending will just move to other areas so they can say there were spending cuts. Govt spending drives the economy remove that and the whole society goes tits up.

Yeah, too many people think the Repubs being back in in the House will solve things. We've gone way too far down the wrong path for this to be effective. Too many lazy hogs are feeding at the trough now. See France's recent news. More riots in major cities - then watch for more police state as well as confiscation attempts at gns.

And another poster nailed it. Lame duck Congress critters will shove and secretly and quickly pass so many stupid communist bills through soon, that the whole thing will be one giant embarrassing cluster F**k.
