I really don't watch a whole lot of tv, but flipping through the channels today I couldn't believe how much gay stuff was on there.

4% is 1 in 25. Do you think more than 1 in 25 television characters are portrayed as gay? I don't watch much television, but it doesn't seem that high to me.

 

It's likely that homosexuals are a bit more common in the entertainment and creative industries. The folks who make TV shows are a bit more likely to be gay or have good friends who are gay. Therefore, they are more likely to want to put gay characters in the stories they write and shows they produce. However, until very recently stories or shows with gay characters were not allowed on TV. That left a lot of stories untold and shows unproduced. That creative back load is working itself out now.

Something similar happened in the late 70s and early 80s with African-American themed shows. Before then, it was nearly impossible to get a show on TV that focused on black characters. Then Norman Lear broke the ice, and we saw a lot of African-American centered shows like Cosby, Good Times, What's Happening, Family Matters, etc.

I could care less about gays on the TV.

Though there seems to be a slight over representation of the homosexuality theme.

 

I don't know where the OP lives, his channel selections must be different than those in OK. We don't have cable at home but I am sitting with a sick friend today and he has basic cable so I went off to the living room to run the channels and see what was on.
News shows, evangelists, 5 or 6 sports channels, a whole lot of "true crime" type shows a few nature shows, a couple food shows a few movie channels (none premium) that were showing 20 year old movies and some really BAD sci-fi.
The most gay thing I saw was a commercial with some dude shaving off all his body hair in the bathroom mirror ending with the words "I'd **** me".

 

Next time check out the Nickelodeon channel.

 

I did a quick google search and found that only around 4% of Americans identify themselves as gay, so why is this culture so prevalent in entertainment?

When I was in high school in the 80's we were told that 10% of people were gays, but most were just hiding it. Classroom of 30? 3 in the closet. Damned if I know what the real numbers are.

 

Ever see one of those recent movies where there is a random but obviously out of reality black character involved? Like a war movie where units were segregated but heres this movie with a black character as part of the unit. That's part of the PC, Dont be racist agenda. Gays in movies are simply the next wave.

My question is, why are there so many shows about serial killers? Are they really that many? I'm getting tired of those shows. Like, murder is cool, lets make 1 million crime shows, oh now murder is not cool anymore, maybe if we make them serial killers?....

I personally think TV is analogous to the cranial feeds in the movie The Matrix. I don't have or watch a TV (and I work in media). BTW, I think The Matrix is the best metaphor for current reality out there.

 

It's not that homosexuals have their own shows, but that they are written into the story lines of shows where previously there weren't any. Disney is a BIG supporter of the LG community.

Its not just the homosexuals, there are a lot more murder shows, shows with adultery, gluttony. We don't watch much TV so I could be missing others.

It's all in when/what channel you watch.

It's a conscious attempt at social conditioning to change the mores of Americans.

While last winter's march was smaller than average due to the extreme cold, the annual March for Life in Washington has drawn larger crowds than presidential inaugurations that take place just a few days earlier, but unless yow watch Al Jazeera, Russia Today or are connected to that movement you wouldn't even know that it happened. I've known people who live in DC that could vouch for how much more congested the city is for the latter march, which probably exceeds practically every other event in that city. But Obama's comments on gay marriage at his last swearing in got far more media attention, brought to you by people who consciously shape the social agenda by their choice of what to cover.

Even fifteen or twenty years ago when the march only drew about 200 000 marchers, that was still a far larger movement than anything put on by the gay lobby, and probably exceeded the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s by a wide margin. Even if you don't agree with the issue at hand, one would have to be blind not to see the influence of a media machine that's highly selective in what it chooses to cover.

 

Personally I don't see many gay things on tv,I rarely ever see any openly gay characters. if the plot, and acting is good I could carless if A gay person is thrown into the show. As long as there's no gay guy intimate scenes Ill watch the show. If a gay guy intimate scene happens, I'll just stop watching the show and that's the end of it. Instead of wining about gay people on tv, just get Netflix and watch the shows you want. B$&/?ing like a little girl isn going to stop gay people in holly wood, choosing other forms of entertainment is much more productive. Just my opinion.

I have friends and family members that "play for the other team", so to speak. I enjoy their company. My wife enjoys some of those shows that others want verboten. Pretty sure I'm still comfortable enough with my sexuality that it doesn't bother me. Matter of fact, I rarely notice it. Maybe I'm going to hell with the rest of those sinners.

It's not just on tv it's in sports , politics , the military and everywhere. Why do I have to here about someones sexual preference at all gay or whatever. I don't run around telling everyone that I am heterosexual so why do others have to announce to the world I am sick of hearing about it keep it to yourself gay or not.

 

It is about indoctrination. Pushing crap that goes against family values. Destroy families and the people are easier to takeover. Just look how things worked out in the inner cities where kids from a single mom might have two, three, four or more different fathers. It is the rest of America's turn to be destroyed now.

 

So what, if you don't like it change channel. I work in entertainment and there are many gays, its a industry that exepts them, as long as they don't try I on I'm not bothered by them.
