Okay, I'm probably being a little myopic here, but my little "tweener" Becker BK17 has proven itself more than adequate for everything that I use a knife for, and I'm pretty sure it only had a 4-3/8 inch blade.
I use my knife to process game, baton logs to make a fire while wet, carving, scraping, lighting firesteels, cutting cord, as a hatchet, and occasionally as a shovel.
I'm wondering what you guys who have 6+ inch knives for use them for that the 4-3/8 inch blade wouldn't be able to do?
I suppose something like a Becker BK7 would be better for using as a hatchet, and could baton larger logs, but honestly how many times are you going to have to baton wood?
Is it worth the extra half or even a full pound to pack around a large knife?
Aint hatin'! To each their own! But some knife choices confuse me, and I'm trying to understand. Maybe there's something I'm missing, and maybe I should be packing around a Becker BK7 or other larger knife, too!
So what say you Dundee's out there?
