High Standard, Rock Island Armory, Charles Daly, or Auto Ordinance?

The CD and RI are $499. High Standard is $420, and the AO is $540.

Stay FAAAARRRR away from the AO! I know two folks who each bought one and they both had nothing but trouble out of them. I own a Springfield lightweight Operator, a Norinco 1911, and a Smith and Wesson SW1911. To tell you the truth, I carry the Smith more than any of the others. The Springfield is lighter but the Smith is more accurate and after some Wilson mags and over 1200 rounds of ammo, not one single malfunction. If I didn't have one and was in the market for one, I would buy a plain jane SW1911 from Smith.

I don't agree with the notion that to be reliable a gun has to be a high dollar upscale gun. I have shot my Smith 1911 for years now and the only problems I had was with the cheap mags she came with. I bough some Wilson mags and have never looked back. Before the Smith I had a Chinese Norinco 1911. Had it forever and it was a dead on reliable pistol. Not knocking you, just don't agree with you.

I have the Springfield GI.its pretty good for what it is.Its not American Made, but its built by Imbel in brazil. They have a reputation for building good weaponry. They built FN FAL clones for years and still do I guess. As for the Rock Island,I have heard stories about pretty crappy customer service.

Being a 1911 fan I own several and have owned several dozen over the years. But my opinion is just that an opinion. I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry and shoot a 9mm Kimber Target II in IDPA matches. Both have never failed to do everything I have asked of them. I have fired a few rounds through a Taurus and it seemed fine. The older Colts a good pistols but for the price you will pay for one I would buy the Kimber. The newer Colts are not the pistol of old. The fit and finish leave a lot to be desired. A 1911 is still one of those thing that you get what you pay for. Go to the range and see what your neighbors are shooting and which ones they are having trouble with.

personally i love Springfield's models, great warranty and great weapons. The operative is my favorite model but to each his own. i would say go to a gunshop and hold each of them to see how they feel to you. The best thing i can say is, which ever model or brand you choose, dont go getting a mess of aftermarket parts, kimbers and springfields are amazing enough, and although the "cool" aftermarket parts are tempting, you will lose reliability more often than not.

I own a Kimber and love it. I paid $670.00 OTD for my ultra carry stainless. that being said the Rock Island pistol is a great one for what it is. My fater-in-law has the plain jane G.I. model and it is a fantastic pistol. We have put many rounds through it and it still works good. The only problem with the G.I. model is the sights, I have no problem with them but my Father-In-Law cannot see them.

The Colt Series 70 model and those made prior are made with forged frames and are free of MIM parts. They are my favorites and I own several. I bought several 1911s that were cosmetically challenged/blemished for really cheap prices. They shot just fine as they were but I rebuilt and refinished them just for the fun and experience. They are not for sale.

Very nice FX

OOH OOH Show and tell time.. Here's my 1917 manufacture Colt..

Unfortunately, refurbished and reblued at the Colt factory sometime during the 80s.... I hate these grips as well.. I think I'll put an old checkered grip back on to bring this puppy back to it's original look.. But then again, I could also just say screw it and get Hogue wrap arounds to make this puppy bad assed..

From what I have heard, those replicas are well worth the price..
