Just wondering if anyone out there has decided to buy a 1911 in 2011, what manufacturer your gonna buy and why,,even include models if u wish...

There are alot of 1911 makers out there, so if i didn't list what you want to get, please feel free to post it, I think I'd need 20 poll slots for every maker!

Look at American Tactical. Yeah, their 1911's are made in the Philippines, but the manufacturer is Shooter Arms, and they are really getting it together on their QC. They had some growing pains initially, because ATI essentially bought their entire output over the next few years, and they are having to upscale their production radically.

What you are getting for the money though is essentially Kimber quality at a discount price.

I own and like Springfield, Kimber, Colt, and Wilson Combat, but I'd have to say that I'd get a Colt this year considering the 1911/2011 100 year thingy. Any of these would be an excellent option for new 1911 owners.

Personal experience with Colt- one POS in-accurate jam-o-matic, one eat anything out-of-the-box tack driver.
No matter what the brand, try it before you buy it, even if it's just racking the slide a time or two and having the shop person field strip it so you can look at the innards. (If the clerk can't/won't open it up when your going to drop 400+ bucks, find another shop.)
I paid around 90 bucks over on-line prices to buy local-shop made good on the POS one, swapped it for the second.(seems most every part in 1st one was at max tolerance-end of production run??)

This one tempts me: http://www.coltsmfg.com/Portals/0/panels/Colt-100.pdf
If you can afford it get a wilson combat that is one of my dream guns, but if you want something a bit more reasonable get a kimber. I love my kimber. I know Wilson is making a special centennial 1911, but then why would you buy a centennial unless it was from Colt?
colt is auctioning one right now for shotshow. last i looked it was over 80K and rising.
