When will we stop the genocide in North Korea?

The number is over 1 million, and North Korea is a glaring example that concepts of the 'World Police', the United Nations or that the 1st world powers genuinely care about tyrannies is a farce.

North Korea's atrocities are well documented; were it not for the support (now waning drastically it appears) of the former Soviet Union & now Russia in its 'stead and China's protection, North Korea would have been 'visited' long ago. However, the region, for many, many reasons is a quagmire politically and geographically. The best chance for action against North Korea would have been before we toppled Saddam's Iraq. Now though, after seeing how poorly the West managed that country, and the resulting and ongoing chaos and sectarian violence it is engulfed in with no visible end in sight, we are unlikely to ever take military action against North Korea unless they provoke a retaliatory strike of some sort.

As soon as they start trying to sell oil on the global market in a currency other than the US Dollar. ;)
But since they don't have any oil, the answer is probably "never".
But if they keep threatening nuclear war, we'll possibly give China our blessing to go in and do the dirty work, which they'd be more than happy to do, and of course, they'd never leave after that.

I was just about to say something along these lines. If they were an oil selling regime, they would've been subject to either an invasion, or several US backed military coups of the government, by now. Or any of that other blackwater crap like assassinating a political leader and smearing evidence pointing to some other entity all over the crime scene to cause instability in the region. If it doesn't involve our resources, our government honestly doesn't care. The only reason they care about the region at all is that south korea and china are important trading partners, and their only real windows into that region of the world.

If the chinese never left afterwards I don't think it would be that terrible, in every conceivable aspect china's regime is better than north korea's regime. Plus with how they brainwash their people it is probably going to take decades to get that country to any sort of normality.

Sadly, N Korea is in the minor leagues when comparing genocide. Our current favourite investor and financier , China , is a bit hitter in the mass murder league. Also, Russia, Middle East oil supplying countries, The list goes on and it is a rather large list.

A rather unpalatable truth is that unless there is a financial or geopolitical reason, no action will be taken. The fact that a government \ leader has a side hobby of killing his countrymen/women is often ignored if gets in the way of doing business.

Sentiment and humanity have no place in these matters.

I was going to ask about Iraq myself .... but I was going to ask the OP how much protesting they did when the US and Prez Bush went in to stop the Hussain family - once and forever ....

they even make the Koreans look tame .... nobody but Hussain has ever used a mass gas attack against their own people .... Syria doesn't count - too many culprits available - including Obammy - to point an exact finger ...

There is nothing we can do about North Korea. Every citizen has been raised from infancy to believe that we are monsters and that South Koreans are our slaves.

If we talk they will not listen, if we bargain with them they will not abide by a bargain with us, if we give them food the starving will not get it, and if we invade then the starving citizens will die protecting their country from us "monsters".

There really are some people that we cannot help. Sometimes a people must do things themselves because they will not accept help of any kind, not even a bowl of rice for the orphans.

You understand, my favorite charities are those that feed hungry kids and I donate to them when my budget will allow. But, nobody can figure out how to do ANYTHING with North Korea: we cannot even bring in food for the hungry because what does not get stolen will mostly end up in storage for the future needs of the army.

If we cannot even feed the starving, how can we get them to release prisoners?

Does anyone ever go back and look at the countries the United Nations pretends to help?

If you did you would see a trail of lies and deceit. The United Nations is about control. They help no one but themselves. Much like Haiti, sure they rush in when the cameras are rolling.

But do the research, have they helped? Somalia? Bangladesh?

How many years has the U.N. sought to end hunger in Africa? How are they doing? Most of the minerals have been exploited there. But there is still more than enough starvation to go around.

The United Nations main goal is to turn the whole world into one big third world country, with a few elites in charge. They may have started out with good intentions, but greed and human nature have conspired to morph them into the bloated, self centered, monstrosity we see today. They will not stop until they dominate the world or they are disbanded.

Sadly the first is more likely than the second.

Apparently George Washington was an isolationist too.... in 1862

The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is, in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible. So far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith. Here let us stop.

You could ask the same question about Burma,Rowanda and about one third of Earth.

this planet has no shortage of crap holes where human life has little or no value by its leadership

but the big question about North Korea is will America honor the ceasefire agreement and attack the north if they invade the south as per the 1953 agreement.

Since it appears that President Obama cannot Read the United states of Americas LAWS who knows what Obama would do

paper tigers make fake lines in the sand but boy can they get re elected

You go on any time you want to, dude. While you're busy traveling, head on down here to WNC and mow my damned grass, clean my toilets (all three of them), and clean up the hairball my cat just hacked up in my kitchen floor, first. You're responsible for those, too. I'll give you an encouraging round of applause when youre done.
