Just trying to get an indication from others about what they would have done in the following situation.

I came home from work today to find an unknown car parked at the end of the road. I live in a newly developing sub-division, which was formerly an 800 acre farm.

The building sites are very wooded and homes are not stacked on top of each other, but right now there are only two homes on my section of the sub-division.

Anyway I went in the house to inform my wife about my plans to drive to the end of the road and check on the vehicle.

I get in my truck and drive down to the end of the road to assess the situation. A young boy and girl are sitting in the car, both of whom look to be in their early to mid-20's.

I ask the boy what is going on in a nice way while informing him I noticed the car and was just making sure nothing was wrong. All of a sudden a full-grown Doberman pokes its head out the window and growls, but the gentleman quickly told the dog to cool it. I noticed the guy became alerted when the intimidating dog growl didn't seem to faze my actions because he looked at me when the dog made a move towards the window.

I also sensed a feeling of nervousness and a state of being uncomfortable on the young guy's face when I exited my vehicle, which got my attention right off the bat.

The guy told me him and his lady friend were letting the dog out to play, which I knew right away was a lie because it has rained all day here, making the area they where in muddy and the dog was spotless.

From looking at the two of them, they did not appear to be on any type of drugs or hard drug users because they both looked very healthy.

Now did they indulge in a recreational drug like marijuana? Don't know, but from their physical appearance, I can almost safely say they were not dangerous drug users.

I have seen enough of those to know the physical characteristics methamphetamine's and other so called hard drugs have on people's appearance.

After sizing up the two people, which I nicely talked to and told them I was just checking on the car because I had not seen anyone in it when pulling in my drive, and wanted to make sure nothing was wrong because I am known to keep a watchful eye on things such as strange vehicles in the area, I told them to have a nice day, got back in my truck and went back to my home. Several minutes later, the car exited back up the road.

The downfall to my home location is not many houses are built yet with the struggling market and the up swing is my road is a dead end with one way in and one way out. I assume before the area was turned into a sub-division, it was a regular for back seat lovers, which is what I believe this to were doing because one thing I quickly noticed was fogged up windows, which told me one, they were not running the car's heater, or two there had been some erratic breathing going on.

What I am asking is if you would of handled the situation any differently? I recorded the tag number and the details of the vehicle when I approached it, and I was cautious walking up to it. I was packing a firearm, but the driver in the car never seen that. I wanted the guy to know I was being alert, but at the same time covering up the fact I was wanting to know why he was sitting a dead end road in the rain when it was nothing but forest land. I think I got my point across in a nice way.

Any information you can share is appreciated. Thank You

You did everything right IMO.

My first thought was he was looking for a place to break into and the fact that you approached him means he will look elsewhere. If he saw you write the license plate number down even better.

From what I can gather, they were not looking for anything to steal. I have the ability to get owner information on a plate number if I need to but have not on this vehicle.

I am going to go with Idaho on this one because when I pulled in my driveway, I noticed smoke coming from the passenger side of the vehicle, which is a sign of an after sex ritual for many. But with a full grown doberman in the back seat, I don't know how the two of them were able to do any type of serious romancing in the small Ford Escort. Now could they have just been necking and carrying out touchy feely? I am guessing that is what was going on.

Not really worried about someone entering my home due to the safety measures I have installed along with a two siren alarm networked to the local LEO. It would take a fool to hang around when that thing sounded because you can't hear yourself speak when it is sounded.

You did good, but I would have also taken pictures...
Never thought of that ZXT. From my vantage point, I did have the ability with a zoom lens to take photographs of the vehicle from the driveway. Thanks for the idea.

if you lived near me, you probably woulda talked to me lol
i usually do it at like midnight or later, though.
Like mentioned before, the farm has been in existence for a long time and I think people don't know homes are being built in their old love circle and they still take a chance on getting by with it.

I am hoping if the market ever gets lined out someone will build at the end of the road, which will curb anyone from sitting there.

Most cars that enter the road --which has been very few-- normally exit after reaching the end of the drive because of my house and the neighbors. They could easily use the last road over as no homes are built on it yet.

I can pretty much tell by the occupants of the vehicles that come down this way whether or not they are looking at building sites or just looking for a place to hold up for a while.

LOL, I could of laid the 25-06 across the hood of my truck and took out a tire or two. That would of gotten his attention real fast.

Everything looked good.

But nowhere in there did I see 'notifying local law enforcement' ...

Suppose the worst of the worst had occurred. Letting local law enforcement know what you had seen, or observed (e.g the license plate number) would be of great assistance to LE if something were to have happened.

You're still a taxpayer. Use the resources you've got.

I have to agree with you. It crossed my mind to call them but I didn't. I see were you are coming from on an escalating situation though. Thanks for the input.

They were "workin on the night moves" - Bob Seeger.

I wouldn't worry about it very much, just kids looking for a place to make out. Keep an eye out though just in case.

With it being around 4:30 in the day I would say it was more like the Billy Squier tune - "Stroke me, Stroke me"

As a formerly horny teenager, the last thing I'd want panting over me while trying to make out is a secret spot is a filthy dog. ;)

I think you were spot on with how you handled it. :thumb: I would have added taking pictures, but around here it would be a complete waste of my time to report it to the cops. They couldn't care less about the real crimes going on, much less about the potential crimes.

I live at the end of my road and have run into this before about 8 years ago. This area used to be a 300+ acre farm, part was blueberries, pecans, pines, pasture.

When the blueberries come in season in june/july I had a few inadvertantly end up driving onto my property thinking it was still a huge farm (the way i set it up, it is hard to tell a house is back here, unless you get right up on it).

As soon as I showed up, they took the hint and left. quite fast. Don't know if it was the dogs or the double barrel. :)

Haven't had anymore suprises the last 5 years.

You said someone was smoking. Did your nose tell you it was anything more than a cigarette? I thought they might have stopped off to have a puff, may be. Or may it was a dope deal waiting to happen, with a doggy for security. Who knows, but I prolly woulda done same as you, maybe watched a little longer first. Cheers, Herne
