Sounds like you are planning on using the bike now to save gas money. That was going to be my suggestion, if you haven't biked much in awhile to ride. Your sit muscles take some use to be able to bike long distances. I used to do 50-60 miles a day easily. I was shocked last spring when I couldn't do 10 without not wanting to look at the bike ever again. I did and got my ass back in shape for doing decent distances.
Yeah, that's the plan.

Physical fitness comes into it, too. I'm overweight; mercifully, I lost weight this winter (had the Coof; and dropped almost ten pounds) and I want to keep the trend going. I need to drop about 12 more.

I walk an hour a day, fast clip, just for the exercise. I try to combine it with errands I need - the grocery and drug and hardware stores are all within half-hour's walking distance. But even with podcasts on a headset, it gets boring.

A bicycle would be better, give me greater range of muscle rotation, and make more non-car trips possible. A win all the way around.

I got another "prep" with the help of the wonderful Amazon package handlers. My S&S and one other item are due to arrive tomorrow. This morning I found in my email a message from Amazon. "Oops, something happened and we are unable to deliver your order.......". Saved myself $20 when I found one of the items cheaper elsewhere, thank you Amazon. The other I'll need to wait a few days before updating the delivery.

Got some wool socks, battery carriers for different bags, folding saw, usb/microsd card, a couple more first aid kits (just basic 300pc) to keep in different spots.

Few weeks ago I doordashed (yeah Im lazy) jetboil canisters from a local Dicks Sporting Goods. Got them to pair with my Soto Windmaster. Then a 2nd set of Stanley adventure kit.

Just redid a get home bag in a Jumbo Versapack. Just in the revamping/changing bags up/putting fresh supplies in.

Good times to check your bags when (if your state/country partakes) in the time change (spring forward/fall back).

Today was a day of freebies. When I decided that the life of a Survivalist was one I was going to persue with vigour. I made a commitment to myself that I would apply the ethos that it should be as cost neutral as possible. And I am doing pretty well in that regard.

I work as a Janitor with a wide geographical patch and a varied set of tasks. Not the most high brow of professions, but there is money in muck and old brass if you know where to look.

That said, today I was charged with clearing a unit that had been abandoned with unpaid rent, everything headed to a skip.

Well lets just say that my little runabout car was loaded to the brim.

Pallet wood, broken down. Fire extinguishers and a fire blanket, First aid kits and eye wash. Buckets, small filing cabinet with keys, municipal bin key (Great in UK for bin raiding, I have 5 already but via ebay, the bin key will be sold and become candles), a good sized tub of fixings (nails/screws) and best find of all, 50 metres (easily) of guttering. Which I have earmarked for a vertical veg plot.

Preps and a days pay. Hard to grumble.

I prepped of sorts, filing cabinets if I can find a place to put them. I also get a cupboard to store things with - all free. I also netted some books I can sell whose profits will go towards preps.

🤣 On a positive note for those Negative souls of hate. 🤣 Those who think that disabled people on disability and SNAP should be off of planet earth (or at least their country), I just found out that one of the conditions I have, could have me dead anywheres from 3 to 10 years, depending - but this is strictly based on medical research that they did on people who are like me, but not like me. I do not drink, smoke, sit around depressed, etc. so most likely will outlive that by quite a bit. But, with my food allergies and situation, I do not get enough veggies yet. So, for those who hate me, you could always put up a calendar counting down the years 30 or 15 years, as either is plausible, and more likely than 10 or less.
Sorry, but I just find scientific medical research hilarious when they group a bunch of people together and then when you dig deeper the condition they are noting has nothing to do with why they died earlier in life. Healthy life style is everything folks!

Stig,

You've got a real nice setup.

Freeze drying and dehydrating are wholly different animals.
I won't dehydrate onions in the house. Lol
The freeze drier is a closed system so smells don't hit the open air.

I might have missed it because I've been traveling but you posted a while back that you'd show a breakdown of all the costs of freeze drying food. If you've made a post on this please lead me to it.

If you haven't shown this, please show us a breakdown.

I did see one of your posts that said you had recouped the cost of the freeze dryer but I've not seen a detailed report on how.
