Picked up a few things yesterday at Aldis and Wally World. Trying to expand our short to medium term pantry a little at a time. For the first time since we started prepping, space is starting to be an issue. We are empty nester's and have two empty bedrooms upstairs. Thinking about using one of them for more storage.
Food Bottle Food storage Ingredient Tin can

About $60.00. The only two things we are not sure about is the Great Value roast beef and pulled pork. We will try them and then decide whether to buy more. I have read where some people say they taste like dog food.

It has been quite a while but I found walmart.com pricing on Auguson Farms products were lower than the AF website prices, and free shipping to boot.
This afternoon turned into pain time. Back issues.

I'm spending the rest of the day researching emergency food. These are "supposedly" the 10 best. Some of these I've never heard before.
Anyone have any other companies sites to put on the list which you can say are decent?
  1. My Patriot Supply
  2. Augason Farms
  3. Wise Company
  4. Valley Food Storage
  5. Legacy Food Storage
  6. BePrepared
  7. Thrive Life
  8. Mountain House
  9. Backpackers Pantry
  10. Peak Refuel
Some of these seem to be more for the "camper", than actual survival food.

Agree, I've found WM pricing on Auguson Farms items to be better that anybody over 90% of the time maybe 100% as I haven't looked at all the places it's available.

Technically yesterday’s prep…

Successful WM trip:

4 boxes (300 ct) matches and a box (75 ct) of long matches.

3 Small plastic storage containers with lids to put away items not used every day.

Plastic bins to organize the laundry closet and make items easier to find.

12 boxes of regular mason jar lids

4 long lighters

Also took several items we don’t need in the house to our storage space and gathered several more items that we will take this week.

Nothing personal, but I hope you folks don't have high blood pressure. There's a ton of sodium in most of what you bought there. If one person eats that can of chunky chicken w/ veggies, you've already eaten 72% of your recommended day's worth of salt. If those are 8oz packs of potatoes and you eat the whole thing, you've eaten 2x the daily rec of salt. And don't get me started on the Spam!

I know if you have to eat these when you're bugging out, salt's the last of your worries. Just sayin'.

I'll shut up now. :p

I firmly believe if it tastes good, it is most probably NOT good for you.
Don't care about the high blood pressure, I enjoy a nice hot meal of (canned) soup in the winter, especially if it's paired with a butter dripping grilled cheese sandwhich....

Yep, that's how I make it for me and the kids when I do. I like the chicken and rice soup with a grilled cheese.

Yep. We've preached that for a few years now, and no one seems to notice. 🙃

Ordered a few things from the emergency food people. Also purchased some additional blankets in case winter throws me a curve. Finalized the palate deal, so I have 100 of them being dropped at the shop. Crew put new safety chains on my trailer, as well as cut off and replaced the old tongue on the trailer. (Once on the truck it took explosives to get it off - kidding).

Stopped at the next door neighbor and completed our seed trades. And USPS dropped off the 2.25" peat pots for starting. Also got good news about the neighbor. Their connections with people has them expecting 3 children to be placed with them before the end of the year. I'm happy for them. All three from the same family, age 2, 3, and 5.

Not sure where to put this, so mods please move if it fits better somewhere else.

I just reordered my shoes as they're in short supply here in the PNW. While I was searching around to find comfortable non-hideous shoes to fit my short wide feet, I found this chart that converts women's shoe sizes to kid's sizes. They have other charts, too.

I never thought about doing this, but have noticed men's shoes are often priced less, sturdier and longer lasting than women's athletic shoes. I think it fits in the general theme of "men want comfort and value, then style, women want style first," which of course applies to nobody of any description trying to be frugal. I'm sure there are other charts out there. Just something to think about - if you convert between different sizes, you'll have a better selection. Particularly with young teens, who seem to outgrow things while the new clothes you just brought home are in the wash.

Anyone who thinks my shoes are unfashionable because I buy for comfort and durability first should probably find something better to do than wander around judging the state of other people's footwear. :D If you spend your whole life going from your car 20 feet to another climate controlled area you can be as fashionable as you want. But if you have to walk around a lot outside, you only have to have your shoes/boots fill with oily slush once before other considerations become primary.

i always have bought mens sneakers (esp when i was running) and hiking boots. they re wider and more comfortable

for those of you who get the VICE channel i finished watching the 6 part series of WHILE THE REST OF US DIE which is the biggest piece of socialist propaganda ive seen in a long time. new season starts the end of this month. it s worth watching for the subtleties of trump hate ie they ll show a picture of trump tower in nyc while verbalizing how the american elite are busy creating empires for their own gain. this is what they are indoctrinating their young demographic with. it s worth the watch just to see what the other side is doing.

Gee, instead of telling us how bad Trump is, why don't they tell us how good their boy has made life for all of us.

Oh, that's right. He was a complete and utter failure. Carry on.

Major preps the past few days:
  1. Got O2 absorbers and Mylar bags in, ready try my hand at LTS of food. Starting with some flour
  2. Went shooting for the first time with a friend who’s an instructor. Ton of fun, learned a lot. Definitely going back out when I can

  4. Got a new GHB bag for the second car, moved my gear into it.
