Agreed!

My marlin model 60 I've had since childhood. My favorite to shoot is my Ruger mark 2 mk-6 7/8. Basically the most accurate pistol I have ever shot. No recoil. Not very loud. Fun to shoot. Hard to pick just one or even two. I love all my guns equally. LOL.

Wow! That was my reply too. I had a marlin model 60 and a Ruger Mark II. The model 60 died (in a camping accident) so I replaced it with a marlin XT which is the same thing as the original model 60 but bolt action which can be (and is) pillared. I have hit quarters at 200 yards with the marlin and golf balls or even shotgun shells at 45 yards with the Ruger with the adjustable target sights, all with pretty good consistency. They are fun on gophers or just plain plinking and you can shoot all day for $ 15. No sore shoulders and not hard on your ears. Unless somebody brings a CZ or a $ 1500 Olympic rifle to the range, you're not likely to be out shot. In fact, I have not been out shot yet with either one. Tied a few times - Yes - but not beat.

The Ruger I recommend to anyone. The marlin is Connecticut and I'm not sure about their quality control. I don't what the odds are but I and another person each got a "bad shooter" (4" pattern at 100 yards). I fixed mine myself and now the bullet holes touch but had to get out a slide rule to do it. I'm not putting marlin down. I just don't anyone to buy one on my say so and then shoot a 4" pattern.

I noticed a lot of people cited what they liked but not why. It's the "why" answers I most enjoyed.

that Mossberg is just so nice to shoot, full beautiful wood stock, great trigger amazingly, its heavy but breaks like glass, Its got a set of old lyman match peep sights. Great gun
I also appreciate the old Mossbergs. I started with a 151M(b), and now have 13 models in .22 or .22 Mag. 42M, 44US, 46M, 46B(a) and 46B(b), 142A T-bolt, 151M(b), and a few 300 Series, a 402A lever gun, as well as a 620 and 640Kb.

You are exactly right, they feel like real rifles, many have adjustable triggers, GREAT sights, and a WHOLE lot of character.

And they can shoot.:thumb:

Win. Mod. 42 410 pump. I was given it as a Christmas present in 1951. It has always been my go to scouting gun when a long day was to be expected. Light weight, fast to the shoulder on a flush. It has a 28 inch barrel, full choke

Thanks to the OP for a refreshing topic.
For me it would be a toss up between to firearms. The first being a Winchester 22 mag lever action or a 1960's S&W model 19 357. They both belonged to my dad which makes them special but more than that they are just really sweet firearms.

Hands down a 99 Savage in 300 Savage. It's as accurate as a bolt, gives up only 100fps to a .308, is drop dead gorgeous, and I couldn't start to count the deer elk, bear, coyotes and other critters it's brought down.
Drop dead gorgeous:eek: If your going to talk about a gun like that, picture is deffinetly needed.

If your ever down south carolina way with the flinter

This is a hard one I have two that are equally fun and precious to me!

In fact just about all my guns have been whittled down to keepers!

First is my .22LR custom built I call her "The Flyswatter"!

One day a friend and I were plinking around and I was resighting in as I had moved the scope back for better eye relief.

A fly landed on the cardboard and I announced I was going to shoot it! Well we went on to shoot 23 flies at 27 yards with only 24 cartridges. I missed one through no fault of the rifle or myself really. Just as I squeezed off the shot the fly moved the bullet hit exactly where the fly was a few mili-seconds before!

Here's my flinter I'm in love with as well! It's a .50 cal longrifle made by a close friend of mine.
