What is the military using for bolt or semi-auto sniper rifles? Not counting the Barrett 50, are they still using a remington .308? What civilian models are available?

Suggested barrel twist for distance shots?

The ARMY is still useing the M24 sniper rifle as there base but in the sand box I believe they've been axperimenting with the new XM110 which is said to replace the M24. The XM110 is basically a SR25 with a $13000 price tag.
Also the M14 / M21 has been reissued as a repeatable counter sniper.

M24 - 7.62 x 51mm NATO Bolt Action
XM110 - 7.62 x 51mm NATO Semi-auto
M14 / M21 - 7.62 x51mm NATO Semi-auto

The Marines are still useing the M40A3

The M24 and the M40A3 are built on the Remington 700 platform.
You can purchase these weapons on the civilian market but will cost you what a smaal car cost.

I have a Remington 700 PSS and she shoots 1/2 min allday if I do my part and cost me about a 1/5th what a milspec version costs.

I also have a M1A Loaded (civilian version of the M14) and she shoots 3/4min if I do my part.

I still don't get the grey cammo patterns. I can't think of a good use for this even in an urban environment. It just doesn't make any since to me. It looks cool but I don't see the point. Really nice rifle though :thumb: .

Magfed.....what brand of scope do you have mounted on the Remington?

BTW....very nice loooong shooters!:thumb:
Millett TRS-1 4-16X50 Illuminated Mil Dot. Pretty decent scope, it was given to about a year ago to test and so far no problems, holds and returns to zero, but that's just bench and prone shooting. Haven't quite tested it out in the field yet but it's a pretty solid piece, should do fine.
