Wear a hat and long sleeves and long pants. A light fabric of course. Some V will sneak through some fabrics, but that is better than the alternative.

I suppose in an emergency survival situation you could find mud (or make it) and cover your exposed skin with that, as some cultures do/have around the world.

I read today of a helicopter crash on the north coast of Australia in recent days, where the pilot buried his unconscious passenger up to his neck in sand to keep him cool and protect him from UV. The responding paramedics said this "burial" for ten hours saved the man's life.

I thought he burried him in the sand to save him from hypothermia?

This was northern Australia where it happened. It's sub-tropical and hot there correct? I assumed the writer used the wrong term.
