How balanced is your group? Male/female ratio, job/skills etc. How can you make it more balanced?

My group is 3 married couples, 3 single females, 4 kids. Definitely need some single guys. Need to talk to my cousin who lives nearby and is a Marine but he is heading back to Iraq soon.

I can garden, fish, cook, sew and a bunch of other misc survival skills...
Hubby is strong and an eagle scout. He is a rope master and can garden. He is an arborist and with some trees/wood and rope there is no stopping him.
We have two engineers.
One ER nurse.
One ex military who comes with an large arsenal of weapons and reloads.
One who is essentially deadweight but is my mother and is going to be the childcare and cooking person.
My sister hunts and is very mechanical and has been a contractor/carpenter for years.
Another is an expert seamstress and can be responsible for maintaining clothes. Will have to make her learn how to make fabric from raw materials for her to be more useful.

Outside of the group one of my neighbors also has an arsenal (70 guns :thumb plus more reloading equipment then we would ever need! Another neighbor is a gardener and use to raise cows for beef.

Let's post about our groups and help each other to make them better. What am I missing or how can I make my group better?

Doctor ? Sniper ? hehe us kidding about the sniper. Your group looks pretty good. What you could do with , a bug out cabin or somehting ? Although it would have to be big for all those people lol, how about teaching thos kids to fish/hunt small game, would never hurt to do all the stuff you need to survive and having the kids come home with a load of fish/rabbits, its added bonus to food and stuff

I'm the sniper... sshhh. Our location is pretty rural and we have several different locations at our disposal... A cabin in Maine, a house in NH and some land in Maine way up north. The kids are 3,4 and two 5 year olds. Not much help yet. Two of them are mine and they WILL be learning to garden this year! Haven't taken them hunting yet but daughter want to learn to fish.

Me, my wife, my son. My yankee neighbors and there cousins. All are married with kids. Most of us are former soldiers.

Ronny and his family are expert farmers. They have written books on getting the most out of gardening. He is also a master carpenter.

Eric and his family are former military back grounds. He is a hunter, fisher, and an excellent drinking partner. Even though many people here will hate him for being black, I love the guy. I couldn't think of a better guy to share a fox hole with.

Me and my wife- Taxidermists, and live stock care takers. We have a chicken farm, horse, ect. I can skin and process the animals. I have a small amount of farming skill. I am a master trapper, and unbraggingly the best shot with a long rifle. I have other skills that I can not disguss.

Mr & Mrs H , 5 kids- Ex Marine, HUGE chicken, goat, cow, and pig farm. Security expert. Tested soldier, a vet, family man, ordained pastor. He WILL see you coming 20 minutes before you get close to his house. Once held up a forestry agent at gun point by accident.

Between the families we have more then enough foood and are already self sufficient minus standard and misc bills.

First off, thank you for this post. I also like the service you are giving everyone here at survivalistboards.com. You are helping everyone here realize the gaps they need to fill. This is further proved by the survivalist dating forum you want started. I am married, but I can appreciate it.

Being alone, can effect your mental health, as well as give you a higher failure rate. Most things you can't do alone. It would be better to have a buddy you can half way trust in a shtf situation then be alone. Its even better to have a wife that loves you and you can trust then be alone.

I hope that you fill your gaps. I know that you have 3 single girls and 2000 potential men here who would love the chance to get to know them. I think this is pretty cool. Statistically online relationships work out better then chance encounters.

I have two groups formed depending on my location and the cause of the trouble. My main group consists mostly of folks I've met through my Church. This group is very diverse, I have two nurses, an elementary teacher, a veterinarian, an auto mechanic, a Brownie Leader/accountant, two security officers, a special ed teacher, a clerk, a lawyer, a construction worker/helicopter pilot, my Wife and myself. My other group consists of my officers at work and their families. This group is very heavy on weaponry but not as diverse.

Well, for now I am a Army of One........that is to say till my VA Dr. and his wife, who is a trauma nurse and a major in the army, moved in with me ........ and around Feb or March when my brother with his wife and two kids (15 & 18) will be here from Cuba.

And that's why I have so many alarms and booby traps all over the place just in case no one joins me......... I never count my chickens till they hach.

currently it is
me- many competent skills including hunting, gardening, carpentry, electrical, security, surveillance (urban/ rural) (its what I do for a living) posses 2 303's and a 22 cal lr
wife- hunting, fishing, sewing, gardening, cooking
13 year old daughter- babysitter, cooker, cleaner
3 year old daughter- eater, pooper, entertainment
Rottie - security, companion
Cat- keeps 3 year old occupied

my cousin - sheriff, builder, labourer, posses a few hand guns and a 12 guage and sufficient ammo for short term
his wife - child care, RN, general duties
4 year old son - entertainment for my 3 year old daughter ( we call them Bonnie and Clyde) lol

My father - leader, organizer, certified master diver and extremely skilled and well thought out
My mother - child care,cooking, Gardening, farming (live stock)

My cousin and his family have a similar boat to the one we just bought but 4 feet shorter..

we would leave together if we need to go that route, my folks would come with us on our boat. Keeping in mind that my boat is not in the water yet and needs some minor work done to it

I also have 60 + acres as our BOL which is on the atlantic ocean and has a fresh water stream that flows thru it

my family has just over 4 months worth of canned food and my cousin has a similar amount, my folks have almost a year.

all in all we are not able to pick up and go as a group but given an hour or two we can be mobilized.

we have many factors that require attention but our social group is somewhat able and ready...

we are far from perfect but getting there

I'm going to sit here and pretend that file just says "Cute farm guy" and
try not to think about it

Since we're planning on bugging in and hoping not to have to leave, we've
built around that. We have our farm which we've so far been able to reach
about 85% self-reliance for food and dairy. We have the normal cattle, ducks,
chickens, some sheep and horses. This year we had about 5 acres
in "gardens" but the bulk of that was in dent corn and wheat. Plenty of
fruit trees, wildlife to hunt...good water resources. Over the summer we
dug a nice sized pond...which if it ever fills up will be stocked for fish.

As far as people:

Me: (lol...with 2 history degrees) learning farming...after 3 years, hardly a
master of it...but getting there.
Partner: (ordained non-sermonizing Rabbi and business person) grew up on
a tobacco farm in the Smokey mountains.
Son: Only 4, Master Napper, he's picking up things though.
Caretaker: Grew up on a horse ranch in TN. Worked for 4 years on a farm
in Costa Rica.

In our phone tree and in theory would come: 2 policemen, 3 ex-military
turned farmers, 1 current Marine (who's about to deploy again, so who
knows), 2 Coast Guard CPO's, a veterinarian, my grandfather and grandmother
(retired doctor and nurse), family of all these, our mothers,
sisters and brother-in-laws (both ex military) and nieces and nephews...
one of which is just a few lessons from getting his pilots license. There's
also a handful of "normal" people that express interest but aren't really
confirmed and are on "stand by" (like during Gustav had to call and ASK
if they could come bunk with us)

I think our biggest assets are our neighbors, who are also planning...
all with farms...all with kids...pulling together.

In case we do have to bug out...we've made arrangements for
2 other locations (house just in the country and another farm)
and one BOL of last resort.

Looking at everyone else on here...we need to get to work

All are outdoorsmen/women, well educated and slightly male heavy as the one of the Docs has 5 sons...

We are a pretty open group. We have retreats set up in three different directions from the area we live in. YOu need multiple options if all you know what breaks loose. Travel may be a real you know what as well. Mostly families here.
