I just heard the Webot is predicting a earthquake sometime during December 10 thru 15th? What's this all about? What is the likelihood of this happening? Thanx! -Sarah

The Web Bot sees a permanent loss of low-lying territory globally and foresees that one continent in particular will get hit badly, but it does not say which one. Places to avoid: anything at sea level (Bangladesh/Florida/ etc).

It would appear that many of theses Web Bot predictions seem to focus on the economy both in the U.S. and around the world, and the underlying threat of these predictions is being felt right now. With the recent multi-billion dollar government bailout of many financial institutions, the U.S. has entered into an economic disaster that is sure to destabilize the financial future and wellbeing of many.

Prepare yourself for what is coming. The Web Bot tells us that for the remainder of 2008, bad will only get worse.

WAIT...I got another flash... an awful terrorist attack in Israel... and some women killed in Afghanistan.... and the stock market ... going where they weren't sure it would go... oh.. and a special flash... Hi deters, this post is not attacking yours, I'm just using it as context in which to reply to the thread.

Statistically, from USGS Records, it's not only eminently possible to predict earthquake frequency by Magnitude, but also by location, ground motion etc.

Have a look at the USGS website http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/eqlists/eqstats.html , where there is a table showing that, based on observations since 1990, there will be an average of 17 earthquakes of Magnitude 7 - 7.9 in the world in the coming 12 months. And, based on observations since 1900, one (1) of those quakes will exceed Magnitidue 8.0.

So, I don't know who Webot is, but his(?) prediction is startling only in it's mediocrity. The USGS estimates that several million earthquakes occur in the world each year. Many go undetected because they hit remote areas or have very small magnitudes. The NEIC now locates about 50 earthquakes each day, or about 20,000 a year.

Some prediction I predict there will several days next week ....

Before anyone criticizes the "web bots", please actually read about the research first. Theses 'predictions" are gleaned from a load of vague info. I can tell from reactions, that knowledge of the project is little. I'm not saying the predictions are accurate, but the project itself is VERY interesting.

But it is more than that. It is predictions that are not predictions. It is comments sufficiently vague to make all kinds of claims. It is going with the odds, which any one can do. In short, it is a calculated farce.

The Web-Bot is hit and miss , but the USGS is showing a lot of increase in activity in California in the last few days. Mostly small tremblors , but they are widespread along the length of the state.
