What is your perceived weakest link(s) for catastrophe preparation and what do you need to do to fix it?

Easy! My weakest link is people.

My perceived way to fix this? I have multiple options.

1. Adoption (could bring home someone else's problems though)

Image

2. Harem! (Cheapest option, most fun, might die of exhaustion)

Image

3. Kidnapping (more dangerous, morally questionable, possible legal problems if there's escapees)

Image

4. The Russian Approach (uses valuable hay that could be used for animals, possibility of discovery, lack of defensive skills of the "people")

I'm still weight the pros and cons. Hopefully I'll come up with something soon.

- Ground by us is hard as a rock. Not good for growing, We do have some raised beds, but they are not in a good location to prevent theft.

- My wife. She would want to share everything we have with our neighbors. I would get the: "But they're cold and hungry, and they don't have any food". . . Not my fault they didn't prepare.

Every single part of my plan is shot. My significant other is NOT on board. Half the family isn't speaking to the other half and my closest compatriot within the family completely understands the need and completely refuses to participate. I've tried but the best I can achieve is a few food stores and a membership to the local shooting range. God help us.

That’s 3 diff category’s..
Prepping?…Can never get enough food or ammo..Solution?..Buy more..
Survival?…Perimeter can always use more work..Solution?..Find a source for Claymores or M-60’s..
GHB?…Ea fire kit I assemble has 3 sources of ignition and 3 diff ‘tenders’ for lack of a more all inclusive term..Solution?,.Keep up w development news on that front..
Etc?…Seriously?🙄

For many people, I suspect the biggest issues a/would be on-going medical and prescription issues. This would include oxygen or dialysis needs, or mandatory meds (BP, Thyroid, etc).
This isn't a problem. If you are on dialysis or diabetic you're likely gone in the first few months. You're prepping for your family, not for yourself. It's sad, but that's the state of things if you lose electricity in a SHTF situation without outside support/law enforcement/rescue.

Mark,

My perceived weakest link (singular) for cat prep is not being able to realisticallly purchase the relatively British RX anti-snake venom that does not require refrigeration / temperature control.

For a cat event, if alone here, would not evac on foot during hours of darkness due the numerous displaced snakes from hurricanes.

It's rough enough, but manageable, during daylight.

Probably all of the above.

Food production is very difficult where we are (desert). But after numerous attempts we just harvested our first handfull of scallions! Small victories. ;)

Always have rotation and inventory issues as we have stuff stored in different places.

Need to get our solar set up before summer, and a tri-fuel generator. And so on.

Me.

I'm still tough but I'm a far cry of the shape I was in just 5 years ago. I have not treated my meat vehicle ( body ) very well as a young man and I gotta tell you.....that's a murderous bill when it comes due when you start getting old.

My occupation ( long haul trucker ) hasn't helped but I can't blame it on that alone.

To the younger folks: being young is NOT an excuse to abuse your body. And once you start doing it, it can be difficult to stop.

Hell, I'm not even talking about the hard wear I put on myself with hard drugs and alcohol, although in my case I'm paying dearly for it, but just eating healthy, exercising, getting good rest.....all that crap adds up over the years folks.

Don't neglect your body.

Always enjoy hearing from you. :)

Yeah, I'm nowhere near where I was in my 20's. But for an old dude I still beat most. Luckily I was never much of a drinker or smoker. I still walk 3 miles a day. I try to make an actual (short) hike of 2-4 miles once every week, or two. I try to get out and shoot a round of trap or two once a week or two.

When I can't crawl under a jeep anymore I'll probably start looking for a nice grave site. Or maybe I'll just buy a lift. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Fuel storage.

We got through two incidents of no power for nearly a week, on two separate occasions, early in 2022. It takes a hell of a lot of fuel to run a generator to make heat and hot water. And, I found a source of gas during each of the incidents, because they were localized outages.

If the situation involves loss of power over a wide area, during the winter, for a period of time longer that they were last year, there is going to be a problem. I hate storing fuel, and to have enough to make it through a prolonged event makes me nervous, even though I have a small barn I use for storage that is over 100 yards from the house.

Age. Although I would wager that at 62 and 60, my wife and I easily outwork, outsmart and outmuscle almost everyone half our age, it is foolhardy to think we can do this forever. We can’t, but that is perfectly okay.

We did shift our focus from prepping for survival to prepping to age a few years ago. Having year round indoor plumbing is one example of a nice new luxury that will allow us to age more efficiently as we age.

Water. We just don't have the room to store enough of it. We have filters, but would still have to go get water.

There is a fast flowing creek by us but it's usually full of trash, and run off from the highway, and people throw dead fish on the banks because they don't know how to unhook a fish, and has run off from over fertilized farm land, and more I probably don't want to know...

I would drive a point well in a heart beat but there was a train wreck many decades ago that spilled hydraulic fluid all over the ground about a mile from our house. I doubt the water would be any good. I might just drive one anyway.

Yep, definitely water!

Depends on the rock strata below the surface. Which direction is it leaning?

If you are close to a University, their geological department might have some maps that indicate the strata.
