I've been out of the foreign rifle niche for a while now but a buddy wants me to sell his Norinco MAK 90 for him.

Seems most AKs go for around 6 Benjis but what's the going prices for the old MAK 90, thumbhole and all? Condition about 85%.

I see there's been a cap threaded on the muzzle and tack welded in place. I guess this was to prevent anybody from installing one of those deadly flash hiders. Clinton was a genius !!!!

Do some web searching and find the average price. In the end its worth what you are willing to pay for it.

PRobably looking at the $500 to $700 range. In 85% condition I would say closer to $500.

The only way I'd even look at one of those is if it's really, really cheap and if it was modified in such a fashion:

I hated thumb hole stocks and I've not seen that many around most in my area seem to have been converted to the faux dragonov stocks, which aren't that bad, heck, one could easily find himself liking it, but to me it's still irritating reminders of the limitations placed on those receivers. I don't think I'd pay over $250 for a 100% thumb hole stock AK that's already been set up with the other stock. (I just saw the price of SKS's recently and was shocked...so even a thumb hole might be worth more.)

Anyone who puts this type of crap on an AK deserves to have his head smacked with a phone book.

And FYI--a Mak 90 is just the same as a Chinese Type 56 AK, except the back of the receiver is cut at a slant--with the thought being you can't put AK furniture on it and make it look like an "assault rifle." Also there is no bayo lug/folding bayo.

The Mak 90 is a well made AK.
One of the best made in the world.
I would say better than the US made remo from old parts kits.
Mak 90's are not that easy to find anymore.

A synthetic upper and lower rail??!! --huh?!

How about some upgraded tritium sights? And then call it a day.

Oh, and how about a trigger job?!
Oh, and how about a flash hider?!! --cut the welds on the barrel shroud and unscrew the stupid thing.

Thanks for the input, I had no idea the receiver had been cut different than the original. If I was to keep it I would ONLY put real AK style wood on it, and maybe a flash hider.

But I have no intention of keeping it, just selling for a buddy that has little firearm knowledge.

And Clinton's ban worked, how many people have you heard of being bayonetted since he did away with them !!!! I say again, what a genius !!!

Depends on where the used part of the gun is. Rust from corrosive ammo = bad. Rust from neglect not so bad. Crooked front sight block.......so many things enter into price. Not all MAK's are slant cut.

MAK 90s are one of the best AKs to be had. Thicker stamped receiver, better quality parts.

New in box 700-800. Used. 500.(factory configuration that is)

Because Norinco AKs haven't been imported for almost 20 years and will probably never be imported again. The MAKs are nicely built AKs with fairly thick recievers. I had one back in the mid-90s and it was nicely put together, better than the WASR 10/63 I currently own. As long as you stay 922 compliant you can get rid of the thumbhole stock and return it to a traditional AK with pistol grip.

You can take a MAK90 and return it back to 56 configuration but you must pay attention and comply with the 922R parts count.

Only in a few states. Very few.
Even the Dragonov stock is illegal in these places--so its a wash.

Most states it does not matter one bit.

FWIW:

MAK-90 is short (abbreviation) for = "M"odified "A" + "K" (Avtomat Kalashnikova 1947).


...and yes I own a converted and 922R compliant one, and highly recommend them.
