In the Cub Scouts we built a Hobo Stove, very simular but the heat source was a tuna can that had tightly rolled corrigated cardboard inside which had been saturated with melted parafin wax. Worked quite well. I imagine many other fuels would do the same job. In a pinch liquid fuel could be poured into sandy soil and lit, it would not be as safe though.
Ultra Light Alcohol Stove
I have all kinds of cookstoves,...from antiques to modern.
But when I saw this one, I had to give it a try.
It is constucted out of two soda cans, or in my case beer cans.
Total weight,...less than an ounce.
With 2 oz of 70% isopropyl alcohol I was able to bring 2 cups of cold water to a boil for 15 minutes,.....enough to cook a pot of rice.
It is supposed to work better with denatured alcohol, but I am impressed with the design.
