I have all kinds of cookstoves,...from antiques to modern.
But when I saw this one, I had to give it a try.
It is constucted out of two soda cans, or in my case beer cans.:D
Total weight,...less than an ounce.
With 2 oz of 70% isopropyl alcohol I was able to bring 2 cups of cold water to a boil for 15 minutes,.....enough to cook a pot of rice.
It is supposed to work better with denatured alcohol, but I am impressed with the design.
Ya'll prolly have seen them before, but here's a pic with a peach can windshield.

For some reason I can't find the original instuctions,...(I made it from memory).
It may have even been off the old site here.

Here's a link that's purdy close to what I used.

I think it was called the Don Johnson Photon stove.

In the Cub Scouts we built a Hobo Stove, very simular but the heat source was a tuna can that had tightly rolled corrigated cardboard inside which had been saturated with melted parafin wax. Worked quite well. I imagine many other fuels would do the same job. In a pinch liquid fuel could be poured into sandy soil and lit, it would not be as safe though.

This is great. I'm going to make one for my BOB and another for my regular camping gear. Sometimes all I need is a quick fire for heating enough food or water in the summer(regular 100+ in Texas) for myself or myself and one other. Seems like this will fit the bill cheaply and effectively.

BTW, here's the Don Johnston's High Performance Alcohol Stove ™
AKA Photon Stove ™
link. :)
