Tyler Smith was on an episode of Doomsday Preppers, and his plan was not to prepare for doomsday, but rather to rob other people at gunpoint and take their preps (as well as perform a C-section on his wife in a dirty old barn). He was featured on the show shooting his guns. Unfortunately for him, he is felon from a first-degree theft conviction and also was convicted of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes in 2009. In other words, a dang child molestor. The police watched the episode, saw him firing his guns and arrested him for illegal firearms possession.

Karma- you gotta love karma

Why? The way that they're doing it just turns the show into America's Most Wanted. :D:

There was also an episode where a guy in Texas was demonstrating his fully automatic machine gun. We were discussing a month ago how that owning one of those is as illegal as hell and what we might do in order to get ownership in some circumstances legalized. A week later here's this guy on Doomsday Preppers showing his off on national TV along with his name, city, and the distinctive building he owns next to the only freeway through town.

Of course that guy wasn't a loon and a lot of people here don't think there should be any restrictions on machine gun ownership, but still.

Chuck Yeager?!

He is probably lucky if he is in jail when the world ends. He and his marauder friends wouldn't last a month post SHTF. The life of a raider post SHTF isn't conducive to living very long. It's Russian roulette. Eventually you're going to be unlucky and catch a bullet.
Ever seen The Road? Fiction, but I just had to reply. There was a great screen shot of the cannibals on that semi, that scene when they come across Viggo and his son asleep in the minivan off a highway

Another guy in Texas, a buff ass dude with a wife and daughter who was former USAF, even owned a Cessna or something and along with his Vietnam Vet neighbor flied the local skies to plant preps or alarms or something, well he certainly had quite the arsenal of Class 3 weapons. Some looked certainly more modern than 1986.

That guy with the "distinctive building next to the only freeway through town" I remember also had a machine gun. Showing off that much of your living situation would not be good. As for the machine gun; must be an NFA.

They're not picking weirdos by accident.
Nope. Though not all are numbskulls. Seems like every episodes there's one loon, one genius. I remember that same episode the other prepper was a guy who moved to Costa Rica, super intelligent guy; was building own water filtration system running inside of a tilapia farm. The intelligent guys never get mention, and for good reason. The guy's who despite it being 2014 and still fear Russian invasion, well on the other hand...

Anyone remember the episode where the guy in Tennessee I believe was specifically gearing up for a Level F5 tornado. Was even building an armored school bus as a BOV. Seemed smart as hell, came off as a self-made millionaire. A lot of these guys on this show are either total hicks (Smith) or self-made, independently and very wealthy with a lot of time on their hands or military veterans with an extreme mistrust of current government.

A sex offender and a felon, go figure.
Usually, well in most states, it must be a felony offense to warrant sex offender registry.

I did a little research on Tyler's level-1 sex offense. He was convicted in 2009 on charges that he inappropriately touched a drunk 14-year-old girl.

The children he has with his woman are 2 and 3 now, so they weren't born when he picked up his sex offense conviction.

According to the sex offender registry where he is, he DOES have to register as an offender, but level 1 offenses ARE NOT listed on the offender website.
As to how the hell he was in the vicinity of a 14 year old girl who was drunk is beyond me. That's a scenario every man above the age of 15 should be no where near.

I think young boys are probably safer with him behind bars. I bet his neighbors are celebrating.

From the linked article:
“His stated plan was not to defend himself but to use weapons he illegally possessed, to rob his neighbors at gunpoint,” Sheriff Paul Pastor said of the show. “Did he really think that this wouldn’t attract our attention ?"
While occasionally I can be disappointed with the police, this time they appear to have gotten it right.

It should be noted that he was required to register as a sex offender and he had failed to do so. I have zero sympathy for child rapists. Especially someone who has demonstrated his depravity on international television.
